This China trip is nothing but fantastic for the Flames organization. The guys on the main roster get a competitive head start to the season with the added spotlight on them.
It's interesting to see Foo exclusion from the roster but he will have something to prove here by being one of the 'leaders' staying back to hold down the fort.
Meanwhile we also have so many rookies looking to prove themselves in pre-season games, added motivation and a larger spotlight on them in comparison to a normal pre-season.

And just to add on that I'm very interested to see how the goaltenders handle this.
Obviously Smith and Gillies will starting games in China, maybe splitting the two games(??)
but Rittich and Parsons now will get a chance to prove something by doing the games back home.
I haven't been this excited for a pre-season in a long long time!!

Where's Jon Gillies? Didn't he get extended this summer?

Re: Klimchuk, it's great that he's getting this opportunity to get to know the core players on this trip. He's my dark horse for the 4th line LW job. He's been in the organisation so long that he either earns some role with the big club now or starts looking for greener pastures.
Guys like Foo, Mangiapane, Dube etc. could probably stand to eat some big minutes in the minors. Klimchuk has been there, done that & is due a shot as a bottom-sixer this year.

Gillies seems to be a forgotten high Hope's high payoff prospect. He was great and a top 2 player at Providence. This is significant as the won a championship. Goalies are crazy in their outcomes, I think the team still believes he could be an important part of the team. We all know the value of an above average back up as we have starved for 1 for so long. Saying that he has potential to be a starter still!

Bergeron is not going to China because of an injury.

Is Bob McKenzie doing his interviews with Canadian GMs this year?
I think he usually does it in Penticton, but since the Flames aren't going this year, I was curious if it was planned for this season.
I enjoy those interviews very muchly, bigly.

I know he did an hour long interview with Dubas.
Does anyone know what happened to Matthew Galajda?
He seemed like a promising free agent invite at the prospect development camp. His 93.9% and 1.51 GAA in the NCAA last year is hard to overlook.
I'm guessing he wants to finish his degree at Cornell?

He is expected to go back to Cornell for at least another year.
It was pretty low chance he was going to sign out of development camp. Only 1 year of college completed. All the Flames goalie spots in the NHL/AHL/ECHL essentially filled this year. Usually college free agents that are ready to go pro sign in the spring.
At this point you hope the Flames left a good impression on him so that when he does decide to go pro, they are among the frontrunners.
