Artificial Christmas Trees 2009
We're looking for a good fake tree- I bought this one from Canadian Tire and am considering returning it due to the terrible reviews.
Who has a fake tree? Where do you suggest we go to get a good one?
P.S. I would have a real tree, but I live in a condo building and am pretty sure that is forbidden.

Got ours at Costco. 3 years old now, no issues.
Costco also has a great return policy on.. well, everything.

I'm not sure where I got mine, but if you do buy an artificial tree, get one with the lights built in. It's a huge time and effort saver.
Edit: I think mine was from Costco now that you mention it Tyler.

A second for trees with lights already. I hate putting on the lights.

On the subject of Christmas trees, when is it too early to put one up? I drove past a house yesterday that already theirs up. And another house had their lights on already.

Once you have kids, you might have that tree up all year.

December 1st is a widely agreed-upon 'erection date' for a tree

I say after Remembrance day for any Christmas stuff. Just to keep that day from being lost between Halloween and Christmas.

I have had a fake one with lights built in for about 5 years. Great purchase - you take it out of box, "re-mold" branches, and you are rocking. Got mine from Crappy Tire, and it has been great - possibly the exact same one.
Did you even read those "bad reviews"? One idiot couldn't figure out how the lights work, and the other barely even tried it out.

Not sure if it will help, but we bought a really nice pre-lit (the only way to go!) 8' tree from Sears. Paid $60 for it on a Christmas clearance 3 days before christmas at 80%+ off. I think it was a $400-500 tree.

I've been putting my lights up the last few days while it is warmer out, since I've got about 400 lights. They won't go live until Dec 1 though!

Last year we went out and cut down our own. It was lots of fun. I can't remember where you go to get the permit, but it costs about $5. Pack some cookies, hot chocolate and an axe, then head out to the bush. I think we went somewhere near De Winton. My wife got a sweet video of me six feet up in a tree, chopping the top off with a hatchet. Great fun!

Am I the only grinch around here that just gets really annoyed with the amount of time and effort that it takes to put up all the Christmas stuff, only to take it back down again 3-4 weeks later? We haven't had a tree in our house for the last 4 years because I just can't be bothered to buy one.

Garden Centers tend to have the best fake trees. The green gate or golden gate, can't remember from all the name changes, down on macleod in the south was the best of the ones that I can remember.

Never in my life thought I would say this, but I am starting to think about an artificial tree as well. I made the mistake of mentioning it to my kids, who are older, and they were not happy. I got rid of my mini van this year finally, and am not really into trying to get the tree home with my small car, let alone what a pain in the butt it is to get it set up, get the lights on it, sawing branches off all over the place because we always pick one that is too big (it never seems as big on the lot). We have had a lot of laughs over the years with some of the trees we've picked, but I think I'm ready to go the artificial route. A pre-light tree would be heaven!! With the reception I got, I will probably have to wait until they both move out however.
