I'm kind of looking forward to Brouwer being back. I've seen enough of Lomberg et al to know that Brouwer is at least better than those guys. He's a pretty effective penalty killer and he was playing better offensively before he got hurt. Not quick, but he makes up for it in other ways.

Agreed, but I sure hope they can resist the urge to put him back on the powerplay.

Don't like Brouwer, but he is without question a better hockey player than Lomberg. Better defensively, better offensively, and you can trust him to kill penalties.
I grudgingly look forward to his return. The Flames have a better chance of winning a game with him in the lineup right now than whatever replacement they field.
I do have a caveat, however. I hope he returns like this season's Brouwer. Last year he looked fine right up until he got injured, and then he was awful the rest of the way through. Hope that it doesn't repeat this time around.

Hmm....okay. I'm not going to completely disagree because Brouwer's career speaks for itself but Lomberg is a rookie and you're comparing him to an 11 year vet.

Wipe out Brouwer's career and just compare both players to just this season, Brouwer is still a better player.

Don't misunderstand my post - I actually like Lomberg. He just isn't as defensively sound as Brouwer, and he definitely doesn't generate offence like Brouwer does RIGHT NOW.
I like Lomberg, he might be a good depth guy down the line, but he is without question not as good of a player as Brouwer is now (nor has he ever been as good as Brouwer during their respective ages).
A few more years Brouwer will be out of this league, and Lomberg might be in it, and of course he will be better. We are talking about right now, however, and I don't think there is a question that Brouwer does more to help this team win than Lomberg....
But if we had 22 guys playing as hard as Lomberg does every night, that would be awesome.

Okay, fair enough. Those are good points that I'd agree with.

I will admit our depth looked better with him in the lineup. I like the style of his game, just the output is at times questionable. He's certainly stepped it up from last season in his overall game, particularly defensively. But that price tag is going to keep him far from being a fan favourite with anything short of a 20 goal/40 point type season.

Overpaid, underwhelming, etc...the Flames are a better team with him in the lineup, period.

Not on the powerplay they haven't. Tkachuk is way better where he was slotting in.

Tkachuk was usually on the same unit as Brouwer.

That's why Brouwer is better in the lineup than Lomberg right now.

He was?
I'm not seeing it according to this chart - https://leftwinglock.com/line-combin...P&gametype=ALL
Maybe I'm not looking in the right place.

I don't think the team has missed him. Since his injury our 4th and 3rd lines have been on fire and our PK only had the one bad night and has looked as good as ever since, including some huge kills against Boston and Nashville.
Team does miss last year's Versteeg though.
