Only additional price is Fox IMO. And my guess is the Flames have a good idea after constant contact for 2 years, that he wasn't 100% sure he'd be signing here.

After the initial shock wore off, I'm ok with this trade. Hanifin and Lindholm are both young with lots of potential. I hate losing Fox, but it does seem there was a real possibility of him not signing here. I'm betting he goes the full 4 years and signs with a NY based team.

Look up the stats, they are extremely close.
We just got younger across the board giving our "window" an extension based on the contracts of Johnny/Sean and the "boys"

I still feel Dougie possibly asked to be moved after Freddie was sent out. He seemed pissed after it happened and on locker room clean out say he didn’t speak to anyone. Maybe the guy is a bit of a headcase?

Not only that, but I think the bigger factor is it seems the other teams knew. When everyone knows your hand, there's no leverage left.

I'm not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but Hanifin is a much more disciplined player.
Hanifin averages around 20 PIM's per season.
Hamilton averages around 60 PIM's per season.
Assuming teams score on 20 percent of powerplays, that should translate into 8 fewer goals per year.

I’m a little disappointed we didn’t get one more piece. I’m sad to Dougie leave but Ferland went MIA the last part of the season. I liked him when he showed some interest, but I didn’t even notice him at the end of the year. I hope Brad isn’t done yet.

I also think that Ferland will disappoint the Canes. I like him a lot, but he needs to play with top players to produce, and he will not there.

There's reason to believe based on previous comments by Rod Brind'Amour that the prior Carolina head coach was misusing Lindholm and that he has untapped potential. So there's that. Lindholm just needed to get away from Bill Pet-wait

Why not? Aho and Teravainen can set up a sniper like him just fine. He has the speed, skill, size, and discipline teams covet. I wouldn't be surprised if he became a perennial 30g guy.

I feel Lindholm is a significant upgrade over Ferland. Selling high on Ferland is smart and Lindholm fills a team-need (right-handed shot, can play RW). There's still a lot of untapped potential there and I could see him become a 25g/60p player in the future. I really like this swap.
Defensively I think Hanifin has elite potential, but Hamilton is a right-handed defenseman with size who can put up 20 goals and 50 points. Those kind of players are unicorns and while I absolutely love having Hanifin in the fold, we still give up the better defenseman here. Sure Hanifin could become even better in a few years, but you never know.
So an upgrade up front and IMO a downgrade defensively. Will be interesting to see the new deals for Hanifin and Lindholm, I hope BT can get a couple of good contracts here. In general I love that we got younger - Hanifin is 4 years younger than Dougie and Lindholm is 3 years younger than Ferland.
I'd be very happy if it was just a 2 for 2 deal, but including Fox sours things significantly for me. Even if you're scared that he won't sign - that's still two years away and there'd have been plenty of time to deal him for something else. Throwing him into a deal like that pisses me off.

Hanifin has always been thought of as an absolute stud. Ranked top 3-5 in his draft year. Made the nhl at age 18. Skates like the wind.
People are saying it because there’s a good chance Hanifin evolves into as good or better a player than Hamilton.

I think once we all settle down, we will see it is a pretty fair deal. Canes probably get the edge now, but I think Hanifin can equal or better Hamilton and Lindholm has far more potential and higher ceiling than Ferland. Both younger.
Fox, while a good looking prospect, is a complete unknown.

Hanifin is good don't get me wrong but everything has to go right for him to have the impact that Dougie does
Lindholm should have been the piece to fill that gap in value but instead Ferland and Fox get thrown in for funsies. Ferland is better than Lindholm, draft position be damned.

I think trading Hamilton without getting a bonafide 1st line talent is a loss. There is definitely room for Lindholm and Hanifin to prove me wrong but I would consider this a loss.

Lindholm is a huge upgrade on Ferland. Loved Ferly but he's done zilch since the playoffs against Vancouver.
Fox I'm sad to lose but he likely wouldn't have signed here and he's only a prospect. Could be the next Letang or could be the next Tom Erixon. I'm not concerned.

This is bang on.
I wonder if Carolina actually wanted Hamilton.

What stats specifically? Because everything I've ever seen says that Hamilton / Giordano was one of, if not the best defence pairing in the league over the past 2 years.
