Stephen Brunt saying on the radio this morning that the reason that Milanovich left is because he doesn't think the CFL will play this season. Not a good thing when people on the inside of the business don't think the season will happen.

that was my first thought as well when he left. If they cant figure this out and 2 seasons are lost, stick a fork in the CFL, which would be too bad. I'm already leaning towards not renewing for a couple reasons.

I can't see how they can play without significant government assistance - and the CFL has been unwilling so far to open up their books.

Remember the Save our Stamps campaign in the 80s? Maybe we need a similar campaign/fund raiser to save the CFL. I have to believe that some kind of country wide lottery could raise between 20-30 million dollars to help out the league and with a small boost from the federal government, that should be enough to get the league over the hump to play this season.

Weird description.

2 years of rehab means he is very likely just fine as far as his knee goes.

And KJ is as elite as Burnham...though it would've been nice to have both. KJ likes his slot position and getting a burner on the wide out side is somethng needed...though with Huf's ability to find guys over and over again....have to trust he is sure he has someone.

One variable though is we have no idea how any of these guys are going to respond after not playing for almost 2 years.

Hopefully we'll be at a point this summer where (i) limited fan attendance is permitted, and (ii) there are enough safeguards in place (that the CFL can afford) to ensure the players and staff are kept COVID free. The NHL pushing to get fans for the playoffs would be a big step, as outdoor CFL stadiums are presumably safer than indoor NHL arenas.

Even then, I would expect there to be pretty tight restrictions in place (i.e. must stay in their hotel rooms, etc), and likely smaller rosters to reduce costs. Could make it difficult if there are injuries since you won't be able to bring someone in across the border without quarantining first.

I don't think it will be a major issue for the younger players but the guys in their 30's like Charleston Hughes may have issues getting physically back to where they were after being stagnant for a couple of years.

The Calgary Stampeders have signed American receiver Ryan Grant.

The six-foot, 194-lb. product of Tulane University has 80 games of National Football League experience with Washington, Indianapolis and Oakland from 2014 to 2019, accumulating 123 catches for 1,333 yards and seven touchdowns.

Doesn't seem like a Huff move to bring back an old veteran that he cut previously.

Never a bad thing to bring new blood into the league with NFL experience but at 30 years old I assume they are not looking at a developmental guy here.

Would be surprised if the CFL plays, outside of maybe a shortened season August forward when/if they get stadiums at least 60% capacity. A tall order but required in a gate driven league.

Doesn’t help with having a weak kneed commissioner who has a lot of things come out of his mouth without saying anything on the current state of the situation, and instead focusing on everyone singing kumbuya.

Did you make that bet?

The Toronto Argonauts have signed star defensive lineman Charleston Hughes, per sources.

It’s a two-year contract through the 2022 season. Hughes was released on Wednesday by the Saskatchewan Roughriders prior to CFL free agency which is scheduled to open on Tuesday, February 9.

Definitely. He still follows the Flames too, he was hyping up Gaudreau on Twitter in our game over the weekend. Still has a lot of love for Calgary, what a beauty. Love seeing him succeed down there

If we can get to the point where everyone who wants to be vaccinated will be vaccinated by the fall, I don't see why you can't start a season on Labour Day with full crowds (allowed to attend if you have been vaccinated) and all the players and staff vaccinated.

This would make me very happy. Even if it was only a 9 game season.

And with the government giving billions to literally everyone from unemployed teenagers to telecoms, I can't imagine they'd balk at giving a few million to the teams to stay afloat.

The EE=NG team has narrowed their choices for a new name down to these seven...

Eagles should be out because it's already the name of a professional football team.

Evergolds should be out because it's stupid.

Eclipse and Elements sound like the brand names of gum, so they should be out.

Evergreens? There just aren't enough sports teams named after inanimate objects.

Elk and Elkhounds --- a majestic animal that is native to Alberta, or a dog that was bred to hunt that majestic animal?

i still feel that Edmonton Eighties is the answer as they are stuck in the 80's both with their team success back then and their love of the mullet.
