The AHL is considering staging a game in an outdoor venue following the success of a New Year’s Day outdoor NHL contest in Buffalo. “I think there is the likelihood we are going to do one somewhere,’’ commissioner Dave Andrews told media at this week’s All-Star game in Binghamton, N.Y. ... Andrews also discussed a potential NHL initiative to shorten the AHL schedule to 72 games, eliminating four-games-in-five-night stretches and allowing for more practice time for prospects. Andrews said the league would ask NHL teams to “cost share that impact” on AHL franchise’s ticket revenues.

Thats only 8 games; 4 home games of lost ticket and related revenue. It can't be that much money at the minor pro level. Maybe $200K-300K minus $$ saved on travel expenses for the 4 road dates

Getting more practice time for prospects sounds like a good idea
