Official 'On-field' style of the Calgary Cannons. The 1994 - 1997 hat and the 1998-2002 hat are available through hat club in the US. Picked up both and can confirm they are of good quality and as close to the old Cannons caps as reasonably possible these days!

Agreed.
Not sure what they thought adding blue to the uniform was going to do for the look. And then of course the full on change in 1994..

Shouldve kept it simple with red white and yellow.

Edit: Oops, not agreed. Hat I’d want would be the 1985 and 1986. Red with white C. In 1987 they added blue.

1985

1987

Default Remembering the Cannons

I’ve recently picked up a ton of old BLAST magazines off eBay (in the process of scanning all the photos) and stumbled upon this gem…

The gameday program insert for Alex Rodriguez’ first game as a Cannon!

Figured I’d post some of the more noteable photos I’ve come across thus far…

Related to those above pictured 1998 Cannons, watched Moneyball again a couple months back and at one point in the movie, just before the trade deadline scene, Brad Pitt is looking at Chad Bradford's (who was on the A's) stat line, including his 4-1 record as a Cannon in 1998 (when they were the Chi Sox AAA affliliate).

Still get a chuckle that they become the Simpsons-related Isotopes.

I literally JUST discovered Chad Bradford was a cannon 3 days ago. Haha I do recall seeing the random “PCL Calgary” line on the screen.

Fun fact, The Isotopes appear in Better Call Saul…a show that takes place in 2002, when the Cannons were still in Calgary

The sheer talent that came through this city baseball wise was staggering and screw you Seattle for not letting us have Griffey Jr for a while.

Not unusual for a prospect of that stature to skip AAA.
Getting A-Rod was actually totally unexpected.
If we are screwing Seattle it is far calling up key players for no reason when the Cannons were in the PCL final .
Screw them for THAT.

That 1998 photo has "Jose Bautista" as an RHP on the Cannons. I don't know my baseball that well, but I'm assuming that's not José Bautista, correct?

Nope...this Jose Bautista

Like a lot of the 98 team, he was not a prospect, but hanging on @ Triple A hoping for another shot at the bigs.
Man I loved that 98 group...for certain my favorite Cannons team.

I seem to recall them calling up one of our top pitchers at the time, Dave Burba, and not even using him. And we had a 2-0 lead in the finals only to end up losing the series 3-2 (to Tucson?).

I wanna share my Calgary cannons story.

I believe it was 1999

I had just moved back to Calgary from Grand Prairie, I was 16, and never saw a cannons game. My dad bought me my first ever alcoholic beverage! It was a mikes hard lemonade.

He passed away in 2005, we didn’t have many years together, but I’ll always remember that day.

I had only ever been to two Cannon’s games in my life. The first game we sat first row right across from first base. I remember a player tossed a foul ball towards my friends and I. We all went for the ball and it fell on the ground where I scooped it up. I still have it to this day! The other game was the last ever home game before they moved. The stadium was packed and it was quite the atmosphere. I remember the Cannons came back to win after being down a bunch in the 9th inning. The stadium erupted when they won and I still remember “Happy Trails” playing as everyone left.

I went to an Edmonton Riverhawks game yesterday as I have a second cousin who pitches for the Bellingham team in that league. Basically the West Coast Lesgue is college players who are undrafted playing with wooden bats. I think it has a few MLB alum. Sounds like the Covalis Oregon team named the Knights boosted by Phill "Nike" Knights wife Penny is a pretty well backed operation.

That might not be a bad option for some form of Summer pro baseball in Calgary. It was last home game for the Riverhawks and was pretty well attended. Calibre of ball was okay as there were a couple guys who stood out as being a cut above.

My cousin had a rough start with a rain delay and really long top of the first as he gave up 5 hits and 2 runs in the first three innings. But he did settle down to go 7 innings allowing 7 hits, 2 runs, and no walks. Likely not MLB draft material, but still fun to see a relative send 3500 Edmontonians home disappointed.
