Thanks Dougie!
How about we create a positive thread for Dougie instead of arguing over why he was traded. We don't know the exact reason for the trade and many of us thought he would be a Flame for a very long time.
Dougie was a player who scored a bunch of points for the Calgary Flames. He was involved with a lot of charity work and was great for the community. I will also not forget him photobombing everyone during the win streak!
Best of luck to Dougie! Hopefully he crushes it in Carolina and becomes a force in the east.

Could not agree more. I am upset Dougie is no longer a Flame. Best of luck in your NHL career. See you at the MOMA.

Absolutely, thanks for starting the thread.
Loved Dougie, sad to see him go. His photo bombs always made me laugh and I liked how he was out in the community helping.
Best of luck in Carolina!

I genuinely appreciate the off ice work Dougie Hamiton did in the Calgary community. I appreciate those who are able to use their celebrity to make other people's lives better.
I wish Dougie Hamilton the absolute best in his career and settling into the Carolina marketplace.

JMO Dougie was a class guy, its too bad he was traded, offensively gifted among the very best in the NHL. Hamilton will get even better.
I truly believe he wasn't fully appreciated for what he (did) supply for the team.
Proof to me that he was a good team mate is all the well wishes by current Flames players.
My Hope's for Hamilton that when he becomes a FA he signs with a true perennial SC contender again, it's going to be tough to shine if he stays with CAR.

It's hard not to listen to the rumors, gossip can be interesting. But there's no denying the positive contribution he made to this team the last three years.
Hopefully he does great in his new team. And I'm happy that he's not in our conference.

Dougie is a guy that I can actually say I know is a solid guy. It was for a brief moment, but it was a 'nice guy' thing a few players were too shy or caught off guard for.
We were watching the game with the home team staff, and the Flames were the visitors. It wasn't a good game for them, so we were definitely the only ones down there that were happy.
So needless to say, when we saw Gio, Joni, Ferland, etc they were caught off guard to hear muttered "great game"..."go Flames go" as they passed by (except Joni, however. Sidenote: he perked up and smiled huge before realizing where we were and giving us the strangest look. We had a good laugh when he was out of earshot). But when I ran into Dougie coming around the corner he awkwardly asked if I wanted an autograph and a pic: "Um... you... want me to sign something...?". Of course, yes.
I was hurrying as it was probably a bad look, and we had to stumble around for something to sign it with but he chilled and chatted a bit. It should be noted that this was in a spot where I'm holding him up from where he can catch up with his family and everything - not a place where he should be asked for his time nor be expected to offer it. I asked how he thought the game went from his side, and we agreed the 2nd was a bit rough for him or something like that. Then a pic, signature and on the way.
It was a really cool thing to do, and was a pretty cool cap on the night. I'll always remember that. None of the other players were rude or anything, it's just not a place where people around would be fans or media. It was funny how quickly Dougie tuned in and was gracious with his time.
I have a friend that reminds me a lot of Dougie if the rumours are true. The nicest guy on the planet, great sense of humour, would go miles for you - but just can't seem to get motivated enough to be 'the guy'. You feel like he'll turn the corner, and he's that kind of guy you want it for. He has all the tools to be 'the guy' I think, and if a change of scenery is what clicks for him... I'm glad he's going out East!
Good luck on your next journey Dougie, and thank you. You will be missed!

Yeah, I was wondering why this wasn't a thread. Dougie seems like a great guy and I hope he crushes it in Raleigh.

Yeah the rumors honestly surprise me. He seemed to take part in a lot of the charitable initiatives and have a fun sense of humor.
I'm taking a wait and see attitude with the trade, but I'm sad Dougie's gone. Great player.

My wife and I took the kids to Red Rally in 2015/16. We had a family photo with Dougie and Hiller and kids were getting autographs before the photo so my kids quickly had them sign their hats. At that point the usher who was working at the photo station got mad at us because we were supposed to only get photos not autographs.
Both Hiller and Dougie were really cool about it. Hiller told the usher that's what he's here to make the kids happy and Dougie was really cool and laid back about it too. He just brushed off the usher and said to me something like don't pay attention to the uptight geezers.
I got a good impression of him. I really liked how, in a quick photo snap, that Dougie and Hiller treated our family. I left thinking "those two guys get that Red Rally is for the young kids, what good guys"

Everyone enjoyed the photobombs. Not buying this, he was causing problems in the locker room. Good luck in Carolina!!

I think Hamilton was a great player, seemed to be a nice guy. I think he will be very hard to replace.
Wish him all the best in Carolina and in his future playing for team Canada.
