I wouldn’t.
Free up that spot for friendly competition. I’d like to see a Lucic - Ryan - Gawdin line with Gawdin taking some draws.

I think if Hall is a possibility we see Ryan dealt and the difference in salary between Ryan and Janko would be more than Janko and a replacement and we can't really afford to move on from 2 PKers in Ryan and Janko

Qualifying Jankowski would be braindead, and thankfully Brad has shown he understands when not to qualify and just keep negotiating towards something more reasonable. No way you pay $1.75mil for Jankowski right now.

As bad as he was this season I wouldn't be shocked if they do qualify him.

They definitely shouldn't qualify him.
I don't even think they should sign him as a UFA, but if they do, it'll be fine.

I believe he has potential still, but we can’t be waiting for both Bennett and Jankowski spending that much. If the cap space is needed, move on from him.

Yes. If they took that stance with players coming off of bad seasons they would dump 9/10ths of this roster. They also have to think about asset management and not giving away player. I think Jankowski, along with Bennett, can be used in a trade to improve the team. There are teams that will still look at untapped potential and want to roll the dice on guys like Jankowski and Bennett, so the Flames should use that to their advantage. Frankly, the quicker they move on from both of these guys the better, but they need to get something for the investment they put into those players.

I don't think he's worth what his QO would be. But if I'm Mark Jankowski, I'm looking to sign a 3 year deal at whatever amount keeps me in the NHL

Who is giving Mark Jankowski three years of term after a seven-point season?

Who are those teams who think they should give anything for a 26 year old guy who will be starting his Draft plus 9 season? Especially with the cap uncertainty that the next few seasons project to bring.
Back when the Rangers got Brian Boyle for a third round pick, he was pretty cheap, and the cap was going North a fair bit ever season. Plus I think picks are considered more valuable today than they were 10 years ago. I don't think Boyle is very physical for his size, but I think he would at least bump into a turnstile if he had to....not sure Jankowski would, and at this point a Boyle like career is likely the high high ceiling for Jankowski.
So I don't know if the Flames will find another team willing to pay a third round pick for Jankowski carrying a salary number of 1.7. Maybe if the Flames eat half the salary, but than they are at a point where the retained salary plus replacment player is costing them 1.7 million to try and get back a 3rd of 4th round pick type of thing.

First Line Centre

Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Mangiapane
Dube-Bennett
Lucic-Ryan
If we want to improve the forward ranks we need to make room in the top 12. Barring any trades that starts with Jankowski and Reider losing their regular spots.
You definitely don’t qualify Janko. Maybe re-sign him for 1yr, at a lower cap hit, and have him for depth.

I personally would want this, assuming we don’t trade Gaudreau:
Hall - Monahan - Gaudreau
Tkachuk - Lindholm - Mangiapane
Bennett - Backlund - Dube
Lucic - Ryan - Gawdin
Rinaldo, Quine
Jankowski should be traded to a team that needs a bottom 6 center. I would even trade him for a mid pick, maybe a 4th turning into a 3rd based on performance.

Letting Jankowski walk definitely has to be a consideration at this point.
With the possibility of signing Hall, there has to be a lot up in the air at this point though. There is likely a very dramatic set of differing possibilities for how the Flames future will look.
But yes, not qualifying our worst forward last year has to be a possibility at this point.

Canucks are probably patiently waiting to see what happens here as I imagine they will be one of the first teams to contact Jankowski's agent if he becomes a free agent. Leafs thought enough of Jankowski last offseason to take him in a Brodie for Kadri trade. He did have a bad season but I wouldn't discount that a lot of teams may be willing to give him a chance with a change of scenery.

Love this lineup. Might be the deepest group of Flames forwards since the 80s.
The only weakness is at the #1 centre position. However, Gaudreau is also one of the best playmaking wingers in the league, and that might be the best group of #2-4 centres in the league. People also underestimate Hall's physical game. He can throw hits. That lineup has at least one solid hitter on each line.
When was the last time a franchise UFA had ties to Calgary? The organization needs to make that happen.

That’s the thing. Janko has a really bad year this season but his first 2 years in the NHL were decent. 17 goals as a rookie then a 14 goal 32pt sophomore year where he played a key role in the PK.
Like Bennett you see flashes that keeps you intrigued so I doubt the team walks away but he could be a throw in for a trade. I also think he would be eager to sign a one year prove it deal with any team and come back focused.
Who knows maybe we see a different player come late July?

He is an asset with some value so he gets qualified.
Whether he starts the season her or not is an entirely different reason.
Might be time for a change of scenery.

Like the guy but he won't be worth his qualifying offer. I say don't qualify, but still try and re-sign
