An article on the recent tryouts in Calgary with Cavalry. Players from as far as Mexico, Brazil and Morocco attended, and they had to expand the number of slots to accommodate.
Something to take away from the below article is that there may be a path for some talent players who didn't have it in their OG locations. This could be a very fruitful exercise in discovering talent that might have been passed over and finding diamonds in the rough.
Also a fun name in camp that was on York a couple of years ago - Emilio Estevez!
https://globalnews.ca/news/9420143/p...c-open-trials/
“It’s definitely not a gimmick,” Cavalry FC assistant coach Nik Ledgerwood said.
“It is hard for these players to make it through because, obviously, we have a recruiting and scouting department. We are doing our due diligence to pick up the best players, but there is a chance that some players fall through the cracks.
These are the players that have developed at different ages and stages, and haven’t been on our radar right away. So this gives them an opportunity to showcase themselves.”
Many of the Cavs hopefuls say this has the potential to be a life-changing week.
“To be honest, this is the biggest opportunity in my life,” Mexican striker Jose Abela said. “I am from a small town: Tequila, Jalisco. I was just a town boy playing the streets and I go to a big city, Guadalajara, to play professionally there.
“But to be honest, there are no more chances for me down there in Mexico.”

Maybe there was a 15 year delay, in Slava pushing "Post Quick Reply" ?

haha, well I know MillerTime, so I just like to give him the gears that he should try out! I know there's no way he is actually doing it, but at the same time it's amusing to me to continually suggest it!

Well, we've signed a forward. Lots of goals in League1 Ontario last year but typically that doesn't translate to lots of goals in CPL. Hopefully Beckford is a depth signing and there are some more prolific signings to come.

I can't wait for the season to start!
I checked today and there are only two seats available in 201 this year. It's going to be massive.

My favourite part about season tickets in 200 is that I have no idea where mine are, and haven't for three seasons now. I have never even bothered to go to them. I'm just at the rail, or standing 2-3 rows up behind the rail. NO ONE SITS AND IT'S GLORIOUS

Just reading his wiki, I vaguely remember his uncle's name from playing for Norwich and Oldham back in the early days of the Premier League.

There is a part of me that wishes they’d crack down on that to an extent though. Like it’s obviously super fun and awesome. But there’s a chunk of people who should be elsewhere (standing up, singing and having fun), so that people in that section are there.

Fair point, but I'm going to enjoy it as long as it's still a thing. One of the most redeeming factors of 200 and 201 is the standing /cheering as an entire group and not giving a crap where you actually sit. We have one of the best supporters atmospheres in the league because of it!

Well you have seats in the section? I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about interlopers from other sections...

The minute you start demanding to see people's tickets you destroy the very nature of the supporters section. The only time it mattered last year was during the penalties against the Whitecaps. Might as well pay 10x the money to watch a bunch of millionaires half assing it down at the Dome at that point.
