In other important city news, the Mayor ride the c-train for four blocks today and is celebrating the accomplishments they have achieved in terms of safety because the ride was uneventful. What a waste of time.

Try taking the train first thing in the morning on your commute to work with the rest of the normies.

I think it's insane not to have minimum parking requirements. Without them it puts the onus us the rest of us as taxpayers to accommodate for parking in the public realm. Witness all the recent kvetching about residential parking permits now having a *GASP* cost to the homeowners who want one! With minimum parking requirements, to those whiners about parking permits I say: clean out your garage and park your car off the street if you don't want to pay for a ####ing parking pass. Your property has minimum parking requirements associated with it: use it. Otherwise, if you want to use the public realm to store your vehicle: suck it up, buttercup! Quit yer #####in' and pay up!

In the morning it’s a few homeless people just waking up, not bothering anyone. Everything about this and the increased police presence is all for appearances.
I am glad the turnstile idea was quashed though; that was a stupid a.f. suggestion and a real waste of city council’s time and money investigating it.

That photo with the mayor in the article looks artificially setup. Grabbed two visible minority city employees and had them pose for it.

How many Cops do you think are off camera in that photo?
When was the last time you took the C-Train? When was the last time you've seen it that vacant for a morning commute?
None of this passes the smell test. I get what she's trying to do. As usual, she's done it poorly.
Gondek needs to STFU and get back to work.

It's actually probably better if she doesn't get back to work.

I don't take the LRT often but a few weeks ago I was on the Somerset to Saddletowne trains and cops were all over downtown stations removing homeless people from the trains.

I’ve changed my view on this over the years. An increased police presence to make perceived safety higher will increase ridership which increases actual safety. It also reasonable to move these issues away from major commuting areas.
It certainly doesn’t solve a homeless/drug/mental illness problem. It does move the problem which will increase perceived and therefore ridership.

I think that was a pilot program, they are now evaluating results from it.

Rick Bell.
Tells me.
that,
this photo
took place.
at approximately
11:15am.
And pretty sure a lot of people disembark at City Hall station, so I wouldn't expect it to be cheek to jowl.

Public: "The Mayor needs to ride the train and start doing something about the safety issues on Transit!"
Mayor: Does exactly that.
Public: "Shut up and get back to work. Screw you and your photo op!"

I suppose. Never saw anybody being threatened or bothered by homeless people on the trains or platforms during commuting hours myself, so the improved safety angle seems a little much.
I don’t even think that is what is causing ridership lows. We have a system that is downtown weekday commuter focused. Ridership is low outside those periods because the service is reduced. 5 or so minutes between trains in the morning or afternoon rush is great. Outside those hours it’s less compelling especially when you have free parking after 6, why would you take transit at $7.20 per person for a roundtrip.
*if* somehow the result of the security presence is more ridership and it leads to better service then I’m all for that.

I'm sure our city officials can gain a lot of useful insight into the transit system but taking a four block ride that probably lasted 2 minutes.
