Yamamoto is listed at 153; Ennis at 160. And then a bunch of old guys like Aurel Joliat were down in the 130-140 range.
It certainly isn't unheard of, and it's gradually becoming more common again, but there was definitely a period of time in the 80s and 90s where a guy like Phillips would've been expected to be like 30-40 pounds heavier to even stand a chance. Not so much today.

Phillips is listed at 5'8", 160 ... Nathan Gerbe was listed at 5'4", 176. Definitely not the smallest in league history.
I don't think he's either. Or wasn't last summer (2022) when I saw him working out at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex during that year's development camp. You've likely seen more of him, though.
I'm not angry and I don't know if you're misreading me. I am just saying that more onus should be placed on the original agitators than somebody like Scorpion who is absolutely not looking for conflict but has more nuanced opinions.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if Phillips' measurements are inflated a bit but then again, I would expect everyone's are. Kind of have to go with what we're given and then subtract 15-20 from each.
Phillips might be 140, but Yamamoto might be 135.

Joliat's time is irrelevant. People were smaller then and hockey, not being a big business, did not get the best athletic talent.
There was a player in those days who was nicknamed ‘Moose’ because he attained the huge size of (going from memory) 5'11" and 200 lbs. Nowadays, that's just an average NHLer.
As for Phillips and Coronato: If you go by the numbers on hockey-reference.com and nhl.com, Coronato is three inches taller and 43 pounds heavier. They're not even close in size.

The NHL measurements are still from the 2016 draft combine. The AHL has updated its figures every year — they measured him last year at 5'8", 160, down from 165 the previous year.

Wow this thread has become stupid. If you don't like the Phillips content, avoid the Phillips thread. It'd not rocket science.
Not sure if this was directed at me, but for clarity I am definitely not saying people should not be discussing Phillips. I.am watching how his situation turns out myself and rooting for him.
I just find it odd that there is so much focus on something potentially negative when there is a lot of positive to discuss with a guy like Coronato, and frankly it's something we haven't seen in a while out of a prospect. It's been pretty quiet on that front around here until today

Jeezus, I was 165lbs when I was 18 years old AND 6'1". Man, I must have been really skinny!
Flames fans on a Flames message board giving a #### about a Flames drafted player who lead the Flames' farm team in scoring for 3 consecutive years.
Very weird thing for Flames fans to do, indeed.
He’s gone, not coming back, I don’t understand why anyone would waste the time and energy to follow a guy who’s a huge long shot. More free time than me I guess.
