F***k, he was the every man of music, he wasn't glamorous, remotely good looking, he didn't hide behind auto tune, he was just a supremely talented traveling mistral who played great guitar, wrote great songs, sang for the fans and put on great shows that you wanted to see over and over again.
Whether he was a heart breaker, or a Wilbury you always felt like you had to listen to his music either in a bar with a pool cue in one hand and a beer in the other, or on a long dark midnight drive with the windows down.
This day has been an absolute suck fest, and without this news it would have been appropriate to put one of Tom's more rocking tunes on like "Running down a dream" or "So you want to be a rock and roll star", or "Free Falling".
But today it seems appropriate to play
Or what I always thought was a semi biographical song

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Not exactly an eerie coincidence or anything, but I was listening to my Favourites Mix on Apple music (randomly generated based on my library) when this thread was probably being created and it played Into the Great Wide Open. It was awesome.
glorious times. they were reigning cup champs when that single was released, yet it was still such a hoot to see the Flames cap make a random appearance in a Southern California shot video

Freefallin' brings me back to 12 years old riding in my moms van. Such a gnarly career the guy had, pretty cool documentary out there in him if you have the time.
RIP.
Such sad news. First we lost David Bowie, then Glen Frey and now Tom Petty all at age 66/67. Tom Petty was such a talent.
This was one of my favorite Tom Petty songs and this vid is worth special mention to all CP fans - view the frame at 2:14 of the video! Also captured in the still shot below.
Weird. Was watching The Postman of all things last night. Hadn't seen it in years and I said, huh, there's Tom Petty....in this movie.
Really love the early stuff the most. You Got Lucky is probably my favorite Petty tune.
RIP.
