Makes sense for the salaries.
Pearson has really struggled the past couple years.

This was speculation a week or so ago. Pearson has the easiest cap to move.
edit: if it's hagelin for pearson, that's a terrible trade for Rob Blake. Has to be something else going on.

Nope, just one for one.
Based on needs, Pens win this deal.

what a weird/bad trade.
The last time Hagelin scored 40 points was never, the last time pearson did it was last year.
Hagelin pending free agent at 4 million per, pearson at 3.75 for 3 more years?
I don't get it, someone clue me in here.

Not necessarily, but trades aren't based on needs anymore.
Pearson under contract for 2 more years after this one, and he has just one point in 17 games. He never became the top 6 guy he was supposed to, he's a middle sixer.
Hagelin may be done but his contract is done this year.

Kings need speed. Which is what Hagelin brings. It is a shake-up move for both teams. Hope it doesn't work out for the Kings.

Good trade for LAK - dump salary and TERM for the inevitable retool. Thompson and Hagelin will be flipped at deadline. Brown, Kovalchuk and Carter all probably have to go...

The Pearson trade sure reminds me of the Sheahan trade jacked up a little.

Looks like they are attempting to free up salary cap space for the offseason.

I'm assuming the kings move hagelin at the deadline for a 2nd or 3rd rounder, so this is essentially pearson for a 2nd/3rd which I think is hugely undervaluing him.
I honestly do not get this trade at all.

Important to note that Pearson has not scored a goal in his last 30 games and is on a pretty big contract. He's been pretty damn terrible, Kings fans hate him.

Watch Pearson get on a line with Malkin or Crosby and put up a 50 point pace the rest of the way.

Pearson is 26 and during his last three full seasons, he's scored 36, 44 and 40 points. I don't think Sam Bennett will ever be a top 6 guy, but imagine how much worse the discussion would be around this forum if he was making 3.5M a season like Pearson is, vs. the 1.95M he is today? Pearson might be a good argument for why the Flames need to be careful this offseason if they decide to keep Bennett in Calgary with a new contract.
