But thats less than Nylander signed for, and Tkachuk has more impact.

Plus the Leafs held out till December to get it.

I dont see it happenning.

We think Tkachuk has more impact, because we see him 82 times a year. Fans east of Saskatchewan may not agree. Nylander had more ppg last year.

Personally, I think Tkachuk has more impact, but then again, I'm a Flames fan.

Sure but comparing contract year to contract year I gotta give the edge to Tkachuk so far.

Nylander: drafted 8th overall in 2014

D+1: AHL
D+2: AHL/NHL 13P, 22G, 0.59PPG
D+3: 61P, 81G, 0.75PPG
D+4: 61P, 82G, 0.74PPG
Total: 135P, 185G, 0.73PPG (in 4 years)

Tkachuk: drafted 6th overall in 2016

D+1: 48P, 76G, 0.63PPG
D+2: 49P, 68G, 0.72PPG
D+3: 29P, 26G, 1.12PPG pace
Total: 126P, 170G, 0.74PPG in 2.3 years

Even if Tkachuk drops back to a 0.74PPG pace for the rest of the season, he will still finish this year with 70 pts, which is significantly better than Nylander's D+4 year. (If he stays on his current pace, he'll finish with 91 pts)

On points alone, it really isn't much of a contest. And when we consider how much more Tkachuk brings to the table, it's no contest at all. (even if you're a Leafs fan)

It will be really interesting to see how this negotiation progresses with the pending opt out decision.

That aside, if I'm in Tkachuk's camp it's a 5 year deal max. The Flames wouldn't be willing to pay the number it would cost for UFA years.

Said it before, and will stick with it at this point: 5 x $6.75M

5 year contract would be so stupid. He'd be a ufa at 26 and probably commanding around 12 or 13m per year, if we could even keep him. Might as well give the kid his money on 8 years because the difference in the cap savings isn't going to make a difference either way. We're talking about 2m per year. Maybe there wouldn't be enough room to sign the next Derek Ryan, oh no...

It would be better now, for worse later. It's a trade-off. And predicting where things will be, 6 years from now, is beyond guesswork.

Zero chance. If he wants the quickest route to UFA he won't be paid more than $5 x 5.

And if the Flames want to buy UFA years the AAV starts with an 8.

That's the whole point.

Depends on how many UFA years. If a 8 year deal then definitely over 8. If it's a 6 year deal then it will be under 8.

I'm not great at contract speculation but my best guess would be 8 x 8.

Theres this little voice telling me BT will get 7 years at 7.25. A lot of us will be sad about the lack of an 8th year, but all in all it would be great!

It is time to revisit the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Matthew Tkachuk—selected #6 overall is third in scoring with 137 pts in 179 GP, and with 85 assists he leads his Draft class in that category. For the 2018–19 season when a high number of these players will become RFAs he leads all 2016 draftees with 40 points in 35 games (but that owing to the fact that Auston Matthews has played only 20 games). Tkachuk's 1.14 pts/GP is second only to Matthews, and he sits a full 10-points ahead of #2 pick Patrik Laine. No one else is even close.

Tkachuk is not the best players from his draft class, but he is sure making a case right now that he is better than all the rest picked in 2016.

No idea where to put this, so I'll leave it here. Don't mess with Chucky (or his center).

I doubt Dumba was injured by Tkachuk... did Tkachuk even throw a punch in that fight?

Dumba punched his helmet a few times I think

More karmic retribution than anything.

Talk on NHL radio is Dumba could be done for the season, they were speculating it could be a torn labrum.

Don't mess with Chuckie.
