Rutta hasn't been good this year, but he got 20 points in 57 games (3rd for Dmen on the Hawks) last year. Tampa is just loading up for the POs.

Joe Smith @JoeSmithTB
With Slater Koekkoek trade - which #TBLightning hasn’t officially announced yet - Tampa Bay will have dealt six of their last eight first round picks (Koekkoek, Howden, DeAngelo, Drouin, Namestnikov, Connolly). Only Foote + Vasilevskiy remain from 1st rnders picked in Yzerman era

Giving up their 1st rounders sure seems to have affected TB's success.

Clearly this is the result of local taxation and tariffs on 'K's insofar as Jersey lettering is concerned.
It just got too expensive to keep him around.

Not really an issue when you are hitting on your later round picks, Kucherov, Point, Palat, Paquette, and Joseph among them!

Koekkoek is pretty much a bust, and DeAngelo and Connolly are nothing special.
But Howden and Namestnikov were used to get JT Miller and Ryan McDonagh, and Drouin to get Sergacnev.
When you hit on picks like Kucherov and Palat, you can afford to trade some of those really good young guys for really good other guys.

Palat? More like pointe and gourde as impact players versus palat.

You're right, I was just thinking off the top of my head and somehow forgot about Point completely.

Tampa had tremendous success with some of these picks. Palat was 7th rounder that turned out into one of the best two-way LW in the league. His career +/- is outstanding.

Trade demonstrates how clearing waivers adds to a players value this time of year when teams want depth and flexibility.
Rutta could have been had for free and is more expensive BUT can go up and down, not sure for how much longer

This move puts the 'Hawks $9.2M under the cap. And they will be able to, probably, extend DeBrincat, easily, with some left over.
