Third time's a charm? It's a fair weather sports city and I just don't think it's ever going to work there.

Sure why not. Move Arizona to salt lake and expand into Atlanta and San Diego. Get to keep a sunbelt footprint and get a better market for an existing team. A rare win win win for everyone

Why would the NHL want or need more teams the NFL?
Oh I know, not caring about the product but collecting high expansion feews.

That might be the most unimpressive list of investors since Boots Del Biaggio. Son of a founder of mid investment firm, a car salesman, and an MLB COO by day and wannabe sports investor by night. No way this group gets anywhere with that roster.

They got NY Life involved for the real estate part because they have the land. Although it was a mall that went bankrupt and subject to battles with planning commission as they try to repurpose the area beyond a mall.

Anyone know much about Alpharetta? Is this a Glendale or Kanata situation?

Um. Yes. That.

I guess my only question would be:

"What has fundamentally changed in Atlanta that makes anyone think a team there would be viable...this time?"

Remember that time Anson Carter decided he was just as good as the Sedins, and that he would become a UFA instead of re-signing with them?

Shortly that will be known as his second worst financial decision.

The Atlanta Thrashers entered the league in 1999/2000 and went 14-57-7

They missed the playoffs for 5 seasons to start, then the lockout, then missed another season (7 total) and then finally made the playoffs 8 years after their entrance into the league.

Then they missed the playoffs for 4 more seasons before being moved to Winnipeg.

With the new expansion rules they will be a much better team right from the get go, and have a much better chance at actually building a fan base IMO

The VGK have already won a Cup and been to the finals one other time, only missed the playoffs once. They've won 11 playoff rounds in 6 years lol

The Kraken made the playoffs in year two and won a round.

Atlanta wont get an NHL team for years if at all, Salt Lake has to be #1 at this point for the next expansion idea.

Pretty sure Salt Lake and Atlanta are actually viewed as the 1-2 priority for the NHL if rumours are to be believed.

Wouldn’t surprise me to see Salt Lake and Atlanta get expansions, while Houston or KC get the Coyotes.

Financially, it was short term gain. He got paid more than the Canucks would have given him... and then he got to play in Switzerland.
