Hartley is definitely strange in his "Always Earned" philosophy. On one hand he's rewarding Derek Grant which I totally think is deserved, but then on the other he never scratches certain players that deserve to be.

Hartley's quote of the day..."you can't find a lion in a poodle shop". Wonder what he means by that? #Flames

I think Hartley has short term memory loss and wakes up every morning thinking its April, 2015 with no recollection of what has happened in any of the games this year.

Makes his line-up decisions based on last years play.

going to run Ramo into the ground. Cannot tell if this is a good thing or a great thing.

Did Ortio do something to Hartley?

Translation: "I just keep putting random, vague words together that sound some what funny in my accent and you laugh while I escape having any accountability for my ridiculous and blind line up changes and complete inability to fix anything about this team. Yes Roger, keep laughing. Oui. You're doing so well".

Yeah Ramo played sharped yesterday, but playing him back to back? I guess Ortio hasn't been looking sharp enough in practice.

Sitting Smid is neither here nor there. But I didn't agree with Engelland sitting yesterday. He should have played.

Grant should stay yes, but so should Jooris. Jooris gives you a lot more than Bollig does right now (despite Bollig have a few solid games a week or so ago).

Let's see how it goes.

Bob's quotes don't sound nearly as crafty or funny when his team is struggling as it is. If they lose tonight he's going to have to start look at doing the difficult things like benching some players that aren't getting it done. Last year he was a lame duck head coach in the last year of his deal with a team saddled with low expectations. With nothing to lose he took the bull by the horns and sent messages early to guys like Wideman that if you played like crap you would spend evenings in the press box. The team seemed to rally around the mantra that if you worked hard you would play. Now that he's secured the contract and the team is now playing far below expectations it feels like he's in a bit of a job preservation mode right now as he's not making those tough moves possibly because he fears losing the locker room. If the team plays like this all season it won't matter because he's likely not going to be back next year so I would suggest that he goes back to what worked last season and playing players that earn ice time.

Only 3 things i can think of for the goaltending decision:

1. Play Ramo while hes hot (hot i guess), even thou its 3 games in 4 days on the road and it Could be a recipe for disaster.
2. Hartley hates Ortio
3. They are expecting a tire fire tonight and dont want Ortio to get crushed.

Roll the dice. Who knows.

I don't mind Engelland for Smid, it's kind of a meh-meh situation, but I thought Jooris was an absolute spark-plug last night. Really dislike that switch.

Nice to see Hartley adapting his stance on goalies though. Ramo was exceptional last night, the lose and you're out wouldn't do him justice.

Just remembered that today is Friday the 13th.

Ovi sets an NHL record for points in a game.

And they are all goals.

I think making a switch on a back to back on the road would be different than a lose and your out.

You forgot expansion teams first win. Dreading Vegas coming to town.

Here's Hartley's reasoning for starting Ramo.

Of course he wanted it, what goalie says he doesn't want to play. Starting to remind me of Mike Keenan burning out Kipper.

This is kind of fun, from NHL.com

I think I'm up for the Selke Trophy; I'm shutting Ovi down pretty good right now. Two disallowed goals because of me. I want him to get it at home anyway, so that was the reason.

In what freaking world does Ramo deserve anything other than a trip to the AHL?

Listening to the pre-game interview with Ramo just confirms he has no hockey IQ and is too lazy to put in the proper preperation work. He was asked if he keeps a note book of shooter tendencies and his reply was pretty much "There are too many players to take notes so I work on situations in practice and the PP" Your making good money and you won't put in the work needed to get better? LAZY.

He will never be an elite or good tender as long as that is his approach. Sure most guys may not have a book on every call up but they do on the stars and high scorers in the league because if you don't they eat you for lunch. It's no co-incidence he is lit up so much and guys know where to shoot to score. High blocker side, goal every time. Make him move laterally, goal every time.

Well first off, Ramo looked sharp last game. I wouldn't start him B2B, but I see why he's starting. A struggling team; coach plays the hot hand.

2nd, that is silly to assume Ramo is lazy. No one gets to the NHL by being lazy. He may have misunderstood the question, or he may have flat out lied. Goalies do research, but so do the video guys. The video and scouting people give reports and the goalies glean what they want from it. Ramo is not being lazy, so chill.

Ramo isn't a bonafide #1, but being lazy is not somethng I'd accuse him of.
