It won’t end there. He wants every president to be named Trump. He’ll make sure the title is passed down the line. It’s ****’g terrifying. Worse, his MAGAts support that.

There was a clip from Jon Stewart a couple weeks ago where a Trump supporter said, and I'm paraphrasing here, "If a dictator is what this country needs, then I'm all for it", or something along those lines. These jackasses actually want this to happen. If you had told me even 10 years ago that we'd see American voters openly declaring that they'd love to have a dictator for POTUS, I would have thought you were completely out to lunch....but here we are.

It's incredibly sad and terrifying what the U.S. has turned into over these last few years. It's just absolutely bonkers. We're truly witnessing the fall of an empire here. What a time to be alive.

Not sure what you folks are afraid of. If by some miracle they managed to repeal Presidential term limits you'd probably see 2-3 more terms for Obama.

You are assuming there would atill be elections, seems a tad naive.

It's my favourite when Trump argues for things like absolute presidential immunity and abolishing term limits while he's NOT president.

Like, yeah okay let's do it. So Biden is also immune right?

Oh no...starting....now!

Hilarious that they'd argue Biden is too old but also say hey Trump should be able to run again in four years when he'd be older than Biden is now.

Also, to repeal an amendment that would require 2/3 vote from both the House and Senate. Zero chance. I also think if Trump does win, Democrats will likely win the House (but Republicans will take the Senate). It'll be a very dysfunctional four years.

What worries me is that fall could be messy and messes tend to cross over borders.....

That's your takeaway from an attempt to abolish term limits by one side?

I still think the US is heading for civil war. Remember when the SCOTUS had to rule on if Trump could be removed from primary ballots and the Republican party said if that happened they would just count his votes anyhow? They are not going to accept defeat when Trump loses the election, they will claim it was tampered with it rigged, Trump will cry he was leading by a mile in the polls and the loss is clearly false, and the Republican party will claim he is President. All hell is going to break loose.

I will be a civil war the likes of which the world hasn't seen in a very long time.

What do you think civil war would look like? Would military and police forces participate? And if so, on who's side? Then, when it's over, what happens to the defeated side? Where do they go? Does the country simply get chopped up into territories?

Edit. Interesting article. Mainly talking about urban vs rural in almost every state. https://www.npr.org/2022/01/11/10710...in-every-state

Civil Wars don't happen in nations with sub 4% unemployment. What you want to look out for is 20-25% unemployment, particularly in fighting-age men. If there is some kind of catastrophe that leads to a quarter of the men between the ages of 18-39 in the US losing their jobs, THAT is when we need to worry about a Civil War.

Small-scale terrorist actions might take place, sure. But something sustained with anything remotely resembling an organized force actually operating, taking territory, or controlling infrastructure or population centres? Absolutely not going to happen if everyone has a job to go to on Monday.

The apathy around the very real things that Trump openly wants to do, is the scariest part of this whole thing.

I totally disagree. Trump supporters are fanatic and there are a lot of them. Nobody is going to work on Monday when there is serious fighting and acts of violence in the streets. Does anyone think Trump just walks away if he loses and doesn't cry foul? He wasn't as unhinged last time and who had the state capital getting raided on their bingo card? That was just after a small amount of time of him crying foul, he has been building this up for years since then. It is going to be anarchy.

I'm not sure what it would look like, but I tell ya what, the US is a violent country. For a place that should be happy and peaceful it is far from it.

Not sure about the conventional Military in the US, but there are a lot of Militias in the US. Those Paramilitary groups won't sit on the side lines combine that with your run of the mill antigovernment movements it could be a ####ing mess.
