Really liking the bottom-of-the-roster signings that Treliving is putting together. Lots of hard working, GAF types.

With all these Russians in the fold, I suppose Calgary is turning into Moscowtown.

I like these 1yr 700K deals for NHL quality players. If a couple of them end up on the Heat they can help the youngsters learn what it takes.

I wonder if they’re considering Välimäki in the top 4 and Hanifin an asset that can be moved? Maybe Hoffman with the doneros.

If Hoffman is the gain for offloading Hanifin, unless the Hanifin trade is a massive win, HARD pass.

Hoffman is the next Brouwer/Neal.

I am curious if Nesterov does stick around if it is clear the Flames want him in the AHL for an extended period.

He is a fairly popular player in the KHL, so he might not report and get the NHL contract terminated so he can sign back in the KHL rather than spend a large amount of time in the AHL.

The only leverage Kylington has is to sign in Europe and most of those teams are overloaded with NHL prospects right now or sign an offer sheet (which isn't very likely)
It would suck if a young rebuilding team like DET or OTT threw a 2yr 1-1.2M offer (or something like that) at him. Cheap gamble for them, zero compensation, would put the Flames in a really tough spot.

I dunno, why would a player of this caliber take anything but a one way deal at this price. Seems like a lot of upside for us. Can’t imagine he’d come if AHL was even a possibility.

Depth is going to be key this season more than any other season. The schedule is going to be highly compressed, with lots of back to backs, and long road trips out east. Having a lot NHL caliber players on league minimum deals is really going to help this team navigate this coming season.

I feel Ryan has to be moved, just to tight to the cap

I think the big things that Tree accomplished so far are that he improved the team and stayed cap-compliant while doing so. So as-is, we can start the season without any further tinkering required. Now he gets to look at how he can further improve the team/address things that he couldn't do without some level of cost certainty throughout the rest of the roster.

It has been a solid off-season under difficult circumstances, and there's likely more work from Tree coming.

As soon as someone gets hurt for a couple weeks, you can LTIR them.

They would have to miss ten games, but with a condensed schedule that could be as little as two weeks

Looks like he brings some leadership as well. Captain on his KHL team and the Russian gold medal winning Olympic team in 2018.

IMO you only move Ryan if you're certain you can get an upgrade on a better contract.

Something like that might be hard to find.
