A vote for Tango Bistro - went on Sunday - they revamped the menu a bit. Their short rib and pork chop are excellent. And our bill, including booze (we brought our own) and dessert came to less than $100, which is rare in Calgary. And the space is really nice...

Do they still do bottomless bouillabaisse bread and beignets with half price bottles of wine, every Sunday?

Anyone have a recommendation for a Tex-Mex restaurant in Calgary?

I have looked around and am considering http://www.saltnpepper.ca and http://www.losmariachiscalgary.com/ both seem more Mex than Tex-Mex though.

I am not sure about bottomless stuff , but I do believe they have the wine/booze deals still. I don't pay attention, since we have brought our own every single time, given to the nice corkage fee...

Tex-Mex is hard to define.

This new place advertises itself as Tex-Mex:

What's the Difference Between Tex-Mex and Mexican Food?

Haha, yah I guess its a bit hard to define.

I sort of define it as a place with really good fajitas like this gem in Ontario https://lonestartexasgrill.com

I have looked at that place but its owned by the same people who run Anejo and I didnt have a good experience there.

Went for lunch at The Derrick downtown today. Not the greatest place but their smoked meat sandwich is awesome and we like Gin so went there.

Anyways. The bartender was pouring leftover gin back into bottles before we left (we were the last table to leave). Pretty gross and won’t be returning.

They serve gin in glasses with ice and cucumbers. At least that’s what they were pouring into the funnel.

No way, man. Most gin, though not all, is perfect for consumption with cucumber. Mmmmmm

Two fan favourite Top Chef Canada winners, Nicole Gomes and Dale Mackay, will compete in the new season of Iron Chef Gauntlet, premiering Wednesday, April 4 at 9 E/P. Calgary’s Nicole Gomes won last year’s All-Stars season of Top Chef Canada, becoming the first woman to win the title, while Saskatoon’s Dale Mackay won the first season of Top Chef Canada back in 2011. There can only be one Iron Chef Gauntlet champion but that won’t stop us from rooting for both of them!

Apparently that and TFH are the two favourite restaurants for local chefs.

Need some recommendations along 17th Ave between say 4th and 14th. For reference, we like Alloy and Workshop a lot.

Anju (corner of 4th St and 17th Ave) is consistently delicious. When I'm entertaining out-of-town guests and want to bring them somewhere a bit unique, that's where I usually go.

Anju I have been to. Liked it, looking for something more "winedrinky".

Does it have to be right on 17th? Vintage Chophouse, a few blocks away, has great food and ambiance and an excellent wine and cocktail list.

Leonardo diCaprio likes Cilantro. But I think it's on the 300 block.
