Arcades like Laser Illusions, Easy Street, Wizards Castle, etc. Now there are no arcades in this town. That really sucks.

Wow, that looks completely different. I'm glad I took pictures and video of everything in the old Devonian Gardens. It was almost like the last relic of my childhood, almost totally unchanged except for a coat of paint since 1977. I'm also sad the old Lancaster building with all it's nice antique wood panelling and architectural style has been covered up and melted away in TD square boringness.

My fondest movie going experiences are from there. The re-releases of the Star Wars trilogy, Episode 1, Jurassic Park, Independence Day.

Shakeys Pizza (near Westbrook Mall) for birthday parties. One of the first places where you could see the kitchen.

I had a few birthday parties at Shakey's! We went to the ones in WA whenever we were down there as well. Good times!

I moved from Calgary in 1986, so I don't know when it closed down, but I'm pretty sure it isn't around anymore.
Before the Bullwinkle's opened on Macleod Trail (where Schank's South is now), the Mother's on Macleod was where most of the birthday parties I went to as a kid were held.

I believe the Boston Pizza on Macleod just south of Southland is where the old Mother's was.

They went through a major expansion in the mid-80s, adding a bunch of take-out only locations to their roster, around the same time Pizza 73 and Domino's were coming into the market. I don't know if they had financial problems, or the owners just decided to take the money and run, but sometime in the early 90s, they sold off their locations to Little Caesar's.

They had a prominent ad on the Saddledome boards behind the net, during the Stanley Cup run in 89.

Are you sure? Last time I was in Montreal (2007-ish) they still had Swiss Chalet there. St. Hubert is way better though - it's not even close.

I miss going down to the French Maid and parking for free. You had to watch your step though because of all the used condems in that parking lot between the Maid and where the Spaghetti Factory is now (I havn't been past there in so long I don't even know if the Spaghetti Factory is still there). Walking past numerous hookers on your way into and out of the Maid. There was always this fat ugly one that stood right on the corner in front of the French Maid by the hot dog stand. I always wondered who would pay to have sex with a cow like that?
