Default Ovi 894?

Would a nice poll question.

Ovechkin with another hat-trick to get to 635 in his career.

With the NHL game opening up, could he get to Gretzky's unbreakable record of 894?

He is 33 years old.

If the NHL didnt have the two lockout seasons which caused him to miss like 70-80 goals than i think he would. However due to those 2 seasons i think he might fall 1 or 2 years short.

Don't think he can catch Gretz even if he pulls a Jagr.

That said, I definitely think he surpasses both Jagr and Howe.
The game won't change much for him. As long as he can whip that puck like he can, he can chug along into the twilight of his career scoring 20-25 a year after the slow down.

Pretty much this. Without 2 lockouts, I think he's at the very least 2nd all-time. But those 2 lockouts ruined his chances.

Having said that, I can't believe he has 28 goals in 31 games. That is unreal. What a season he is having, on pace for 74(!) goals. I would love to see him break the record though. The man has been a treat to watch since day 1. He's easily my favourite of the ''big 3''.

I say yes.
I've always been a fan. Goal scoring is THE thing in the NHL.

Ovechkin seems immune to injuries so I think he can do it, durable enough to play into his 40's.

The guy has never scored less than 30 goals in a season. even in the lockout shortened 12/13 season. Best pure goal scorer ever.

If he stays healthy I think he can do it. He should be able to pot at least 55 this season which would put him around 660. If he could average 40 goals for the next 4 seasons after this, he has 820 goals just before he turns 38. If he can stick around another 4 seasons after that averaging 20 goals, that puts him at 900 just before he turns 42.

I would love to see him do it, I wasn't a big fan of his but he has grown on me. If nothing else, love to see the looks on those Oilers fans face when Ovi breaks old 99's record.

Plus three years in the KHL when he was still capable of scoring 30/40 goals a season. I'm a huge Ovi fan but Jagr is still the biggest "what if?" to me.

He would need to average 50 goals per season for the next 5 years. Seems a little far fetched for a 33 year old, but not totally impossible.

True, but 25 per year for 10 years doesn’t, and he’ll likely get more than that per year for 3-5 years...

I think it’s definitely possible. Ovi is a beast. I can’t believe he’s already 33 though. Man that makes me feel old.

I think it'll be tough, big guys like him tend to hit a wall and hit them hard after 35 or so, reflexes, speed and the inability to heal fast from injury are reality in the mid 30's.

Also, does Ted Leonsis open up his wallet and pay him enough to stay at 36 years old?

Lol, no. great goal scorer but he will slow down. And there may be a lockout. Iggy got screwed by 2 of them.
