Vancouver’s Antoine Roussel has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for biting San Jose’s Marc-Edouard Vlasic.
5k for biting makes the league look pretty ridiculous. Either bump it up to something like 100k or more, or give an automatic suspension. 5k is basically nothing.

They can't under the current CBA. Agree that it's something to look at for the next one
After watching the video I can somewhat understand Roussel. Being held by the linesmen while Vlasic digging around in his face, it seems like the only thing he could do to defend himself. Doesn't make it right, but certainly sounded worse than it was.
Biting is generally pretty dangerous if skin is broken as there's just as much of a chance of infection as from an animal bite. Honestly I'm surprised he didn't get at least a game or two as there is no room for this kind of stuff in society let alone hockey.

Well, technically it is an animal bite. Humans are animals, and not in the metaphorical sense.
Also, the chance of infection is near zero if you clean it within the next hour or so, so that's kind of a silly point to make. This isn't a deep puncture wound to the internal cavities.

Not really man. I got bit by my dog on the finger and they basically put me to the front of the line at the hospital ahead of everyone in emergency as they treat that stuff as a big deal. I was kind of surprised actually how serious the hospital took it as I was considering not even going but it required a couple of stitches. Are you trying to make a case for biting or something?
Yeah that's what I mean, next CBA stuff like this should be fixed. It's not a deterrent at all.
The PA would likely view that as a concession and use it as a bargaining point. I can't see the owners wanting to increase fines or adding suspensions for player conduct over keeping more HRR.
