We'd come out with some broken wrists and ribs though from Kesler alone.

I don't think this is really accurate. The consensus after the Vegas roster were assembled were that this was going to be a bottom feeding team, and also the general consensus were that McPhee botched the draft somewhat for picking a lot of defensemen he was hoping to turn into something else, but then couldn't. He probably could have assembled a stronger roster from the draft on paper than he did. The Vegas success comes from more than just the roster on paper, and is not likely to repeat with Seattle even if the term of expansion stay the same.

I hate to say it but the Sharks are pretty impressive right now. Thornton has been their Gio and looks like he is playing like the Thornton of 5-6 years ago. Hertl looks like a young Jagr and they are deep at forward with guys like Kane, Pavelski, Donskoi, Couture, and solid role players like Meier. 2 Elite 2 Dmen in Karlsson and Burns. The wildcard is the goaltending i think. We have similar records the last 10 but we havent played to our potential IMO but i guess thats a good thing

The Ducks may actually never win again, and that is just fine by me.

The League was "generous?! Foley paid over a half billion dollars to ensure a better fate than wandering the desert for a full decade.

They have flown under the radar and made up some ground. If the win their games in hand they leapfrog a bunch of teams that are fighting for that wild card.

SJ is playing lights out right now... which was expected to some degree when they traded for Kane and Karlsson...

securing 1st in the pacific allows calgary to let the #2+3 teams beat each other up and based on the 'turtle race' for the WC spots
