Seems like an arbitrary amount to me. I think the DOPS was sick of dealing with Wilson, so they threw the book at him. Arbitrator didn't have that past frustration, which may have influenced their decision to reduce the suspension

Tom Wilson is a 24 year old coming off an RFA signing. Neal and Ryan are 30+ players coming off UFA signings. Of course you're gonna want to take the younger player. Can't really compare their contracts though considering RFA vs UFA.

Well people were declaring Wilson's contract one of the worst in the league when he signed it. I think most teams have a couple UFA contracts they gave to guys over 30 that are much worse than it.

Definitely agreed.

UFA signings are almost always going to be the worst contracts in the league.

So a bump to illustrate that maybe the Caps knew what they were doing when the re-upped Wilson to that $31M dollar deal in the summer.

Since his return the Caps have gone 7-1, he has 6 goals and 6 assists in that span, playing over 20 minutes a night, and is still the biggest deterrent of anyone in the league. Oh, and he is only 24 years old.

If he can keep his emotions in check and quit targeting guys heads, then he can be a real bargain on this deal.

Small sample size to be sure, but thus far the guy looks like a difference maker.
