things can change
to this point, Huberdeau is playing like a 6-7 million dollar player in the modern NHL, which is on par with his current AAV
Kadri is near his value by the current NHL model as well
if Huberdeau doesn't settle in/elevate next year when his AAV rises, then we can talk about overrated

My guess is he offered that same exact $10.5M to Tkachuk who then also decided to leave.
I dont think it was penny pinching that caused these guys to leave.
|
I never said it was an issue with why those guys left. It’s an issue perhaps with the people that are left…

Can we please have exactly the same lineup and lines for say 5 games in a row? Including Vladar in net. Ride it out, see where you are.

I really thought the supporting cast to Tkachuk and Gaudreau was a lot better than it actually was
turns out I was fooled, like many
also we were EXTEMELY reliant on Gaudreau transitioning the puck for us. maybe should've given some other players some reps at it to prepare for such a time when he might leave

Yep. Leave it how it ended for the forward group. Pelletier was fun to watch.

Back 2 Back. The goalie currently playing 2nd best got the easier match up on paper. The better of the two will play in the game that will have a slightly higher impact in your division race.
Pretty consistent stuff from the coaching staff.

Is GM staying with the team in the next couple of years? Is he allowed to make a big trade or spend the draft picks? Or he can try last time to win and allowed to do everything to make this team better next 1 month?

For the record, I think Tre made the right moves in the summer. It was undeniably great work by him.
But it’s just not clicking for the organization this year. The players are underperforming. The coach is mired in a bit of a stubborn fog that he’ll only see clearly after an offseason.
Let the players work through it. Don’t bother trading a 5th for a depth defenseman or whatever. That’s not going to move the needle and it would just be pointless.

same line up (Pelletier on 2RW), Vladar in net
5 straight games
it would be the perfect measuring stick, because that's the best group and combinations this team is going to ice
then management would know where this team is at, and exactly how far away they are. can approach the TDL accordingly

How the hell aren't they awake already? It's halfway thru the season. What are they waiting for?
The Flames are a mediocre team. They've had way too many games this season where you can say they've come out flat, or lack finish. They're not threatening at all. Not enough enough skill. Not enough discipline.
Tanev is just ONE player. The defense shouldn't play like they've never played the sport before. The defense that's suppose to be one of the best in the league is very overated.

Pelletier is a good player. Shame it took management so long to bring him up.

Of all of the newbies I think Duehr and Pelletier have looked the most promising.

But then they will take 9 day break and come back with Markstrom. Maybe that's what he needs.

if they're above the playoff line at the TDL I'd say they've earned depth help at D
if it's for a 6th or whatever it's maybe worth stomaching
if they're treading water in 10th, forget it

The positive side of this is I thought there was no way they would lose this game (so guaranteed loss) and tomorrow I thought there’s no way they will win (so they will).
That’s textbook Flames.

It could have been worse, much worse. Grant Fuhr could have been the Goalie and top Defencemen and Captain was Steve Smith… and Cassie Campbell was on the Colour desk!

Other than Huberdeau’s goal Zadorov might have generated the most offense in the 3rd.

If that’s what you think he needs, then I respect your opinion.
This player’s mental fortitude appears broken. No confidence from his teammates, it’s clear with all the over compensating when he’s in net which makes him over compensate in his game... There is a thing called concentrated effort and when Markstrom is in net this team is not doing that.
Is this because of the teams confidence in the goalie? The goalies lack of confidence in his team? A lack of self confidence? A combination?

Yes. Exactly.
This jiggering around endlessly is not working. I know I can't possibly critique a 2 Cup winner in any way but.........maybe could use a tiny bit of stability.
