Searching for Bobby Fischer is a wonderful family movie to watch with your kids. It has almost nothing to do with Bobby Fischer his name was simply used as a marketing tool. It is a true story of parents navigating raising a prodigy and the highs and lows that come with that. It is based on the life of Josh Waitzkin and the book written by his father Fred Waitzkin.
This was a good film. Definitely Aubrey Plaza's best work to date. It's one of those films though that the trailer gives too much information as I think I would have enjoyed it more if I didn't see what was coming.

This seems to be an increasingly regular problem.
And on that note, I mentioned 'The Undoing' in the TV thread. Do not read the caption that goes with it.
A little late in the day, but since I just remembered it and it was still annoying, came to steer everyone away from Tenet. It's so dumb it's insulting to the audience. Pretty sure the movie was developed like this:
Chris Nolan: Hmm...how about a movie where we can use a lot of footage in reverse?
Warner Bros: Hmmm... Can you just make Terminator, but sub in the reverse footage for scenes where Schwarzenegger would have been?
Chris Nolan: If it pays!
Seriously, it's terrible.

Okay, is it actually better than Safety Not Guaranteed? Because if so I'll watch it.

I recently picked up a 4K player, and I'm loving the quality of the video, I think it's a substantial improvement on Blu Ray. Looking for recommendations for the best looking movies you've seen on 4K? The quality of the movie doesn't matter just looking for highest quality picture and sound. Some of the ones I've heard amazing reviews from is Mortal Engines and Gemini Man.

Blade Runner 2049. The original is good too, especially if you have Atmos.

Watched an old Kevin Bacon movie called Quicksilver, about a stockbroker who loses everything and becomes a bike messenger to earn a living. I remember seeing this in the theatre when I was a kid, but over the years I had forgotten about it. It's quite entertaining and just so incredibly 80s. I couldn't resist its charms.

Loved the Lighthouse. Thought it was well acted with a solid script. Black Bear was just.. Disjointed?
I think that was definitely intentional though, maybe the entire point even. It paralleled the overarching story about writer's block and the methods the character used to create different scenarios with some connected threads or ideas while scrapping others entirely.
The stories have similar themes of manipulation and uncertainty. They even specifically bring up solipsism, "the view that the self is all that can be known to exist." So I felt that the movie being disjointed was a way to play off those themes being explored within the stories themselves.
Meta commentaries can certainly be off putting or hard to connect with though for an audience at large. That's often the risk I find, they are less likely to land. This one worked for me though.
Maybe I was more accepting than I've been with others because the movie seems to call itself out with how she admits to not believing her own bull#### in the first story.

I found Black Bear much easier to follow than the Lighthouse. I actually had to research the Lighthouse after to figure out what I had just watched and while Black Bear is a little open ended, you should have a general understanding of what transpired once the final credits roll.

I would second the Bladerunner movies. Also, Lord of the Rings and Terminator 2. For a different genre, Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman are really great soundtracks.
Haven't watched the Matrix movies, or the Jurassic Park collection yet, so can't comment on quality.

Mortal Engines gets a 10/10 for audio and visuals...... unfortunately the story is just not very good. If you're into steam punk you might enjoy it. I'd recommend it if you wanted a demo disk to show off your set up as it's visuals are spectacular.
