MAF is similar as Elliott as he can really poop the bed in the playoffs, but just like Elliott, can also have a hot year as his ring proves.
I feel picking him up would be a wash. It works for Penguins because they got a roster that's capable of competing for the cup despite the odd warts from their goaltenders, Flames not so much. There needs to be more players that can make an impact on a nightly basis, and then at that point, why not re-sign Elliott since he may be cheaper?
I rather go with other options at short term cost.

That's kind of a big decision the team has to make prior to free agency. Do they think Gillies is ready to be the full time backup? If they do then they don't have to resign Johnson or another veteran backup but if they sign a veteran backup to a one-way deal then it will be a certainty that they want Gillies to play another full season in the AHL.

Frick much over reaction here. Guess it's been a few months. Would stick with Elliott if price is right. you know there is 5!other guys on the ice too right!!! For as talented as our D man there not playing like it. How many times did we try get puck out of our zone when presssed tonight. Everyone likes a scape goat.......frick the flames have scored more goals on ourselves then Anaheim for cripes sake

Naw, I'm pretty comfortable with the Elliot experiment being over. The guy lets bad events snowball in his head.
I don't want Bishop or MAF either though. Bishop was pretty exposed this year, and his contract wishes are just totally out of whack with what we need on this team going forward.

With this core entering it's prime soon, I don't think you roll the dice on Fleury. Flames can't afford to mess up another goalie choice.
If Bishop has realistic contract demands, you go with him.

Elliot is too peaky for my tastes. The only consistency to his game is that he's either really good or really bad. You can't count on guys like that and this team doesn't have a Ken Hitchcock defense in front of him to make things a little less tough.

Saros was great against us... maybe not so great versus other teams?
the challenge is that really, its a bunch of 1 B guys that will be available... Bernier? he did great with Gibson out...but then its like the Neuvirth and Halaks of the goalie world... no idea if they are any good either...
you can kick the tires on a Bishop or MAF, but chances are they will be looking for 3+ year contracts... Calgary is better off with a stopgap of 2-3 years and hoping Gillies or Parsons is ready by then

Not sure why any free agent goalie with career aspirations would want to sign here for a short term deal. Hasn't worked out very well for the last several dudes. I expect we will re-sign Elliot.

I'd say just swing for the fences and go after Price, really thought Eilliott would be the one but he is not someone who will carry you to the promised land. Also please fire Sigalet, he sucks.
We also need better D, the goalie is only as good as the D in front of him.

I've seen a few people suggest Price..... Is there actually a scenario that Montreal would consider trading him that I missed?

Phil Grubauer please.
Elliott is an absolute no. Same with Johnson.

If we are going after a young guy than Grubauer, Pickard, Korpisalo would be the top choices, if you want a veteran than just #### off and sign Bishop. Also we eyed a new goalie coach.

Where did that come from?
Also, why are you referring to 'eyeing' a goalie coach in the past-tense? Odd.
