Default Flames European/KHL prospects: 2024/25 season

With Stromgren coming to the Wranglers last season and the Flames cutting ties to Topi Ronni; the Flames officially do not have any skater prospects playing in Europe or the KHL.*

They are however left with 3 goalies in Russia. To help simplify the leagues in Russia:

KHL = top pro league
VHL = development minor league for KHL. Essentially the AHL of the KHL.
MHL = major junior. Essentially the CHL of Russia.

G Daniil Chechelev - 2020 4th 96th OA - Ryazan - VDV (VHL)
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...niil-chechelev

G Yegor Yegorov - 2023 6th 176th OA - MHK Dynamo Moskva (MHL)
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe.../yegor-yegorov

G Kirill Zarubin - 2024 3rd 84th OA - AKM Tula (MHL)
https://www.eliteprospects.com/playe...kirill-zarubin

Notes:
*There is no transfer agreement between the NHL and Russia. Because of this, there is no expiry for the NHL rights of players drafted out of Russia or draft picks considered to have defected to Russia until they sign a NHL contract.

This means the Flames still have the rights to Rafikov (2013 187th OA) and Karnaukhov (2015 136th OA) besides both exceeding the age where they would be UFAs in the NHL.

The Flames also retain the RFA rights to Tuulola (2016 156th OA) and Okhotiuk until they reach NHL UFA age because the Flames extended Qualifying Offers before they signed in Europe.

Chechelev played six games last season. He's essentially an EBUG at this point.

So, by searching...

Кирилл Зарубин
(Kirill Zarubin)

or

Егор Егоров
(Yegor Yegorov)

...you should find their videos?

You have to look for their specific teams.

Watched the game on Youtube. I really liked the way Zarubin played thought he made a number of good saves. Don't blame him on any of the goals against his defense is very bad and they ran into penalty trouble.

He moved good in the crease, able to track the play well and fought through traffic in front of him to stop the puck. He had good rebound control too.

Four GA for Zarubin. One was a massive defensive breakdown at 5v5 that let the Dynamo player go in all alone. The other three were PP goals he had no chance on.

AKM Tula vs MHK Dynamo Moskva faced off again in a back to back to start the season.

Zarubin comes off the bench in relief for Ilya Kanarsky
1 goal against, 22 saves for a 0.957 SV% in 51:13 TOI and he gets the win

Side Note: Yegor Yegorov did not suit up for MHK Dynamo Moskva in either of the first 2 games.
We'll see how much ice time he gets this year.

Game Highlights start 2:24:19

Replaced him less than nine minutes in? Did Kanarsky get hurt?

Watched the game on Youtube. Kanarsky was not hurt but Moscow got a 2-0 lead thanks to sloppy play in front of him. Coached pulled him to give his team a kick in the ass it worked they scored the next 4 goals and won 5-3. The goal that beat Zarubin was with the goalie pulled late in game. Another solid game from him.

When AKM Tula has defensive lapses, they're gigantic lapses.

Looks like Daniil Chechelev has been moved to another VHL team, Yunison Moskva where he's listed as being one of four goaltenders.

Yegorov has been loaned to HC Tambov of Russia's second tier VHL pro league.

Yegorov just turned 19 last week. I wonder if that's just an emergency loan, because you'd think he'd be better off in Russian Major Junior than Russian AHL.

We'll just continue to draft Russian goalies until one of them is good. It's a perfect system!
