To me that's either go for it or punt. I know kickers are amazing now, but 58 yarders are still like a 55-45 kick. Sure, that used to be 10-90, but not a gimme and now the Lions have got a fairly easy path to a FG attempt to win.

Of course now the Lions need to actually make this the shortest kick they can and not settle for a 54 yarder.

And Lions make a crucial 3rd down.
Texans do not.
One team is executing when it counts, simple as that.

That’s a horrible loss for the Texans, so many chances to put the game away. Slowik’s gone from a top candidate for the next HC opening to having his job on the hotseat in half a season.

Good news of the Texans is that division is theirs so they'll be a playoff team. But they seemed to have regressed a bit from last year.

Poor performance by the Texans offense in the second half. The Dell underthrow is going to haunt Stroud for a while and it should.
And they were still a first down away from winning and could not get it done. Mega conservative play calls, trying to move it 4 yards at a time.

Yeah it's just not the right call. Even if you make it they are in 4 down territory starting from their 30. Probably 75% likelihood they go down for the FG to tie, and of that 75% they score a TD some of the time.
At least if you punt, you only give them 3 downs to work with and you have all your timeouts.
All that said, it's a QB and an offense league. Can't win scoring 0 points in a half and when you need a first down to win the game, when the defense should be tired, you go out and get it.

They're a classic spike team. They went from 3 to 10 wins, and it was two seasons with 4 wins prior to that. So it's not uncommon for a team like that to struggle to keep that win total the next season. No Collins or Diggs does seem to be causing Stroud some serious anxiety
Looking ahead they have Dallas, Tennessee, Jacksonville and Miami before they get K.C. and Baltimore and Tennessee to close. So they likely still win 10 or 11 games and no one else in thst Division will beat 7. But if Pittsburgh and Baltimore have a choice of winning to finish 2nd and host Cinci, or lose and play in Houston. They might pick Houston.

Man both those kicks were close (especially the winning one), Collingsworth said it best.... another layer of paint may have made the difference.

Just past the midway mark it really does seem like 6 of the 7 AFC playoff spots are claimed.
Buffalo and Houston have both essentially won their Divisions so theyre in. Kansas City has 9 wins...that's enough to be in the playoffs on this side. Pittsburgh and Baltimore only need two more wins to get to 9. The Chargers are quite likely the 6th seed and a 10 or 11 win team. So that leaves Cincinnati, Indy, and Denver to fight it out for the last spot. Cincinnati is the most dangerous of that group, their week 17 game vs. Denver likely decides who takes it.
In the NFC I have Detroit as the class of that Conference. Atlanta likely has done enough to claim the NFC South. Philly is a playoff team for sure. Minnesota, Green Bay and Washington seem like they all should make it. It will depend on if two of Arizona, Los Angeles, or San Francisco get hot and knock off one of the other 3. Wouldn't shock me if a 10 win team misses while Atlanta gets in with 9.
Today I'd predict this.
AFC
1. K.C. 14-3
2. Baltimore 13-4
3. Buffalo 13-4
4. Houston 10-7
5.Pittsburgh 13-4
6. Los Angeles 11-6
7. Cincinnati 9-8
NFC
1. Detroit 15-2
2. Philly 13-4
3. San Francisco 12-5
4. Atlanta 9-8
5. Washington 12-5
6. Minnesota 11-6
7. Green Bay 11-6
Baltimore over Detroit for the Superbowl.

Its just flabbergasting how they can never figure it out.
30 different starting QB's in the last 24 seasons....IIRC.
As a comparison, the Packers have had 34 different starters in the last 103 seasons.
