I've never driven one but I've sat in one and obviously I've driven a number of 996s. I'm sure it's practical to use but it just, for me, is not a real Targa. The point of a Targa is to have the windows down and nothing there between the A and B pillars.

I don't consider a 996 Targa to be a bad option necessarily and arguably it's preferable to the 996C2 (although debatable due to the potential for the targa mechanism to fail or have other problems outweighing the benefits) but I honestly think I'd just get a C4S
coupe if I was buying that generation.

Holy crap, you know your stuff. Thanks, I'm happy to know that.

You probably drove it too hard right off the bat. The thing with the air-cooled cars is they take forever to get up to temp. So you gotta drive it easy for the first 10-15 minutes...THEN you can bag the crap out it.

Today that brown would add to the charm/value!

The C4S definitely has the best rear light design out of all of them. I'm just not an all-wheel drive guy.

Nah, we knew that. There was a particular gauge that would take a while to get where you wanted it to be. Maybe it was oil pressure? Coolant temp? Can't remember, but all of a sudden it would sproing to the fun zone and you could stomp on it.

Yeah that oil temp gauge was definitely one to keep your eye on as you not only had to make sure it was warm enough... you also couldn't let it get too hot (which could happen if you're idling it for too long or stuck in traffic on a hot day). These cars use a ton of oil, and definitely have their quirks.

You may find it funny that the SC/3.2 generations are often referred to as being "bulletproof".

Porsche has a list of classic models on their site. It's helpful for someone like me who can't tell an SC from a regular Carrera. Whenever I see an early 80s car I'm like, "Oooh, 930?" because that's a dream car of mine.

Congrats Table, you'll love the 993! I often miss my 95' C2 Cabriolet. I think in past conversations with you, I mentioned I also owned a 1990 C4 Targa which was my first 911. I preferred the 993, even though it wasn't drastically different mechanically from the 964, it just felt more modern. I also prefer the 993's aesthetics.

Silver - my last 911 was a Black/Black 1984 Targa which I sold in 2015. 1983 was the last year of the SC and they look very similar to the 1984 Carrera. The telltale sign is the integrated fog lights on the Carrera. Your Father's 911 looks to be an SC as previously mentioned. Sepia Brown is one of my favourite 911 colours, especially on a modern 911.

Dang it, there's a grinding sound when I brake. Hopefully it's as simple as figuring out where the debris is to dislodge and nothing worse than that.

LOL, had that just start yesterday. Bought brake pads today. Fortunately only $55, and I guess the 30 minutes it'll take to install.

Says the guy who can afford to buy and maintain a rolling collection of off-warranty performance Audis?

OK, make that an hour. Stupid stubborn anti-rattle clip... Fortunately the rotors are still good.

My oil pressure gauge all of a sudden was pegged at the max.. which seems unlikely.. then it dove to zero.

Oil pressure sensor failed.

And I just had to replace the rear wheel bearing because of the rear wheel speed sensor not working and disabling the ABS / traction control.

Time for a different car I think.

Though I guess no traction control or ABS is a feature for some

It always sucks to feel like you have to replace a vehicle at an inopportune time vs replacing one when you want to.

Curious as to other people's experience with replacing headlights? Had the original ones on my car go back in 2022 after about 12 years of ownership. No problem - I'll just get some new ones and drop them in. Now, 2 year later, both are burnt out again. I look into it and it seems the only replacement bulbs I can find are rated for 400 hours of life?? How is it possible that my original lights last 12+ years, but the replacements are good for only 2?

These are what I bought: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00Y9VPK4W?...sin_title&th=1

Did I just buy garbage or what is going on here? I looked at a few places and everything was saying 400 hour lifetime.

Originals were LED? I can't imagine a halogen lasting that long. As you say, they're only rated for a few hundred hours.

A car from 2010 (or older) wouldn’t have LED from the factory, and the 9003 bulb is a pretty standard halogen fitment. After 12 years, I have to imagine the old bulbs were preeeeetty tired and lucky to have survived for so long. Probably about as bright as candles in jam jars by 12 years though.

Did you do the bulb replacement yourself? Accidentally touching the glass portion of an automotive bulb can shorten the lifespan considerably by increasing the amount of heat generated. Oils and things on the skin can transfer to the glass tube.

Just try a different set of 9003s, and make sure you don’t touch the bulb while handling / installing it.

Is there a reputable independent Honda/Acura-focused shop in town that I should know about? I typically know the euro/odball brand shops, but I've never really owned a Honda product before, so wondering who people take them to when off-warranty.
