Yup, basically anybody testing positive now is done for the tournament. Seems like a 1/3 of our team already had it over the break. So we should at least be able to ice one line!

Why? The golden Ring involves travel. How is esso minor hockey week different than just hockey.

Assuming the tournament was taking out of province applications this year...
In light of how quickly Omicron is spreading and can make a difference on what kinds of teams minor hockey teams can actually ice, I still think it would have been prudent to cancel the tournament.

Based on the following, I gather this is purely a judgement call on the team's part, and there are no rules or guidelines that say "if you have X cases, you must forfeit."

Kids lost in game 2 today. We didn't really have a chance given how shorthanded we were, but the boys played hard and at the end of the day it was still a day of playing hockey.
Tough circumstances but we would take it over not playing any day. Kudos to Hockey Calgary for letting the tournament carry on.

We were a COVID beneficiary today, other team had to forfeit, not really how you want to win. Our kids were disappointed, I can't imagine how their team must have felt.

^ if you lose the right game, then get a default, it makes the jpurney a lot easier - but that being said, the winners will likely have little satisfaction this year given the circumstances

Can you point me in the direction of that policy? I only see the option to forfeit or reschedule if you have 2 or more cases from different households.

Same for my son’s team tonight. I feel bad for the other team, they were one of the top teams in our div. and probably had a good chance to make it the finals

The following is what I saw posted on the Hockey Calgary website (link below.) I can't find the "Hockey Calgary Positive COVID-19 Protocol" mentioned in #1... well, I found something, but it was a dead link. So, it could be a case of "if it's 2 cases, its optional, if it's 4, it's mandatory?"

Game Cancellation Process
There are two ways in which a game can be cancelled
1. Team Activities Cancelled - Hockey Calgary and the association cancel a team’s activities for a period of time per the Hockey Calgary Positive COVID-19 Protocol.
2. Team Request - Teams can only request to cancel a game if they meet one of the following criteria:
a. Team has at least two confirmed COVID-19 cases on their team from different households
b. Team has less than 8 players and 1 goaltender available to play the game and have exhausted all affiliate options

I have been told that Hockey Calgary's COVID protocol is no longer in place.
I know of U18 teams playing with up to seven call-ups. There seems to be a lot of cases in that age group right now.

My son played a team with half its players gone and a call up goalie. Not sure if its covid related or not

Won it and our reward was 11/16 kids with Covid at the same time.
The good news is that it is unlikely we get another COVID shutdown during Cities. Our team are the favorites.

Congrats. I find Esso is the hardest to win since you have to be almost mistake free because you are only allowed the one loss. Good luck in Cities. Unluck your team, my son’s team is not a favourite but their next opponent(2nd place) is one that they played pretty tight last time.
