There are a lot of forwards not contributing any offense right now.

Goalies deserve a ton of credit.

They’ve been pretty much what I expected - competent enough to stay in a lot of games, and the goaltending will win them their share (Vladar has been much better than I would’ve guessed).

But when this group runs up against Quinn Hughes, Elias Petersson and JT miller, they’re gonna lose at least as much as they win.

They might not finish bottom-5, but so far I’ve seen nothing from them to convince me they’re not a bottom-10 team by game 82.

Virtually everyone they play has a better on paper roster.

Vladar upped the trade value tonight.

Kuzmenko didn’t.

Flames looked not so great. I feel sorry for the Canucks fans though. Really boring team to watch. They can't seem to get much going and rely on some grindy goals. Hughes is a bright spot, but not much else going on. Still early, but the team, overall, just seems a bit unengaged.

A bunch of hard working guys who aren't expected to win a ton of games, but aren't gonna get blown out. That's the best you can hope for in a rebuilding team which is what we were all clamoring for.

I would rather they win every night, but that ain't gonna happen. Still good to watch them give a ###. Not many passengers in this crew
Yup, hard work can win games, but you need talent and high end skill to win these types of game. Finishing goal scoring.

Decent game though, they tried.

Vladar looked great. I think we have a great tandem who is pushing each other perfectly.

*Calgary after removing the 5-0-1 start: .364
**Calgary actual: .559

Calgary*: .364
Nashville: .375
Montreal: .375
San Jose: .382
Columbus: .400
Chicago: .406
Pittsburgh: .412
Anaheim: .429
Philadelphia: .438
St. Louis: .438
Detroit .464
Seattle: .469
Buffalo: .469
Utah: .500
New York (Islanders): .500
Colorado: .500
Boston: .529
Edmonton: .531
Ottawa: .533
Tampa Bay: .536
**Calgary: .559

Yes, it's silly to do something like removing that heater of a stretch, but it's something to watch as this season progresses. Small sample sizes, but which is closer to actual team performance? The first six games of 5-0-1, or the next 11 games of 3-6-2?

I'm expecting the answer to be somewhere around that .450 mark when the dust settles on the season, which should place the Flames drafting somewhere around the 5th spot with the potential to drop further based on whether or not they do things like trade Rasmus Andersson.

Another way of looking at it:

First 6 Game Set: 5-0-1, .917
Second 6 Game Set: 1-5-0, .167
Third 6 Game Set: 2-1-2, .600 -> 6th game to come on Friday.

That is to say, sample size too small - but I think there's plenty of reason for Team Tank to be positive (the most recent 11 games), Team Mushy Middle to be confident (the current standings), and Team Playoffs to be worried (the most recent 11 games).

On tonight's game - I thought Vladar put in another solid effort while the Flames seemed inept at generating offense in all circumstances

I felt Vladar kept this from looking worse. Flames were the slower and smaller looking team tonight.

With that said, really difficult to be critical. I would imagine that they are an exhausted team tonight. From that that perspective, their effort level really wasn't bad. Just move on to the next one.

Clearly our lack of Yoked Slovaks was our downfall here.

I hate to admit it, but I'm enjoying my decreased GAF factor this season.

Never too high after a win, never too low after a loss.

Besides, they did well for 3 in 4 nights

Tough to play an amazing and complete game and then travel and play amazing again 24 hours later.

So we get the Canucks at home on a back to back for them with travel at some point right?

If the powerplay ever gets going it’ll make a world of difference.

Our goalies have both been rock solid.

Vladar was terrific, but tough to overcome the poor scheduling. Calgary was tired and as Huska noted this team has to outwork the opponent to win games. Not much has in the tank tonight with all the games they’ve played lately. Unfortunately this isn’t a collection of players that can win games on talent or strong individual performances putting the puck in the net.

Turnovers and special teams hurt the team again. Kadri, Huberdeau and Anderson’s whiffs allowed the Canucks to capitalize. I really don’t understand the PP and what they are trying to accomplish. They struggle to get setup, and when they do there doesn’t seem to be any set plays or “identity.” You won’t win many games in this league when your PP sits near the bottom.

Apart from the negative, watching Costco exceed expectations has been fun along with the strong play in net from both Wolf and Vladar.

Personally believe that you are never as good as your win streak and never as bad as your losing streak. I think pulling the hot start gives a better picture at this point.

I like to take out each team's longest winning streak and longest losing streak to get a better picture of what they are. Those long streaks are often caused by factors that are difficult or impossible to replicate.

You would have to pull all the other teams win streaks too

Or we could just go by the standings lol

Yeah it’s somewhat disingenuous to lump in the back to back Vegas and Utah games as normal while throwing out the entire 6 game start

They were unusually flat those games

Or to say the Flames are .364 and the worst team in the NHL while using all the other teams actual records...wins included lol
Flames deserve to be at least .500 this year, most of their wins were full marks if not all

Tonight was as unfair as the NHL schedule gets the the Flames hung around. Calgary went from Buffalo to Calgary, played a game last night, then to Vancouver for tonight's game while the Canucks waited for them on a homestand they have been on since last week.

Yeah but if you also take away their losing streak they have a perfect record

At this point in the season, it's not that helpful. After 20 or 30 games, striking off the outliers begins to give a better picture.
