That is a very impressive stat.
No one plays more PK time per game than Travis Hamonic...yet many are trying to run him out of town....for "picks".
Maybe he actually contributes a bunch more than many of us think?

I posted this in the SN national TV thread and it's worth reposting it here.
Good news for those outside of the Flames region. Tonight's Canucks-Flames game will have both play-by-play crews available nationally!
At 6:30 PM /1830h PT, Sportsnet West and SN360 will have the Flames commentators. The Pacific channel will have the Canucks feed. These channels will be taken away from the Habs-Panthers game at that time. The other 3 channels, SN East, Ontario, and SN1 will JIP the Canucks-Flames game once the Habs-Panthers game is over and will have the Canucks commentators.

Perhaps he’s better suited on the 3rd pairing during 5v5 play. No doubt he and Gio are dominate on the PK, but I would like to see Hanifin - Andersson and Kylington - Hamonic given a look during 5v5 play.

Exactly.
I agree that Hamonic is unfairly trashed, and the point about the PK is a very good one. But at the same time, Andersson has passed him for 5 on 5 play, and the Flames would be better off, IMO, running with a top 4 of:
Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Andersson
those pairings would maximize the impact of our 4 best Dmen. Hamonic would be better suited to 3rd pairing minutes, specific matchups for physicality, and his PK prowess.
Not a knock on Hamonic - and I love him, he's a warrior - it's just a better overall utilization of our defensemen, IMO.

I'd be hesitant to give Hamonic too much credit for the #2PK. If you dig through the numbers, we're a pretty average team on the PK in shot/chance prevention, but Rittich has been the best PK goalie in the league (.932 SV%, 8.02 GSAA).

Hanafin actually hasn't been that great this season and the 2nd pairing struggles aren't all on Hamonic. IMO Andersson is probably the Flames 3rd best defenseman at this time and I do think the team would be better served with Hamonic on the 3rd pairing.
Back on topic this is another big game for the Flames. For this team to make the playoffs they are going to have to win a lot of these 4 point games to get separation from the rest of the division.

The Flames have to start establishing themselves in the Pacific division and separating themselves from the pretenders. This season has been one in my mind of severe underachievements. But the Flames have a half season to turn things around.

Big 4 point game. After stomping the Oil doing the same to the Canucks would be great

Agreed, those are two of the nicest jerseys in hockey.
Hoping for a fun game tonight. Hopefully we see a lot of scoring. Maybe Talbot in net?

Also, happy 33rd birthday to one of the Flames' best players, Derek Ryan. Skates like he's 10 years younger, thinks the game like he's a coach in his 40s.
