I missed how the girl ended up in that room. Or was that skipped over?

She was the one at the bar in episode one, I believe. Cop covered the tab for her drinks.
Might have to go back and connect the dots, but I believe the chief said there was somebody who could provide accommodation for the night. Looks like that person set up a trap for people (women) passing through?
Probably gets clarified later.

the obvious assumption is they are setting up Dexter's next victim.

I'm not sure what I was expecting for the reboot but I'm feeling underwhelmed. It just feels like more of the same (which isn't terrible I guess) but it feels like a 15 year old show.
I guess I was hoping the writing would be more focused and polished to compete with the premium shows that have been released since. Shows like True Detective or Mindhunter.
I'll still finish the season to see what happens but I guess I was hoping the production and writing would have improved with the time they've had to bring it back.

Yeah it's kind of underwhelmed me as well. I thought the writing would be better but I'm holding out hope that it improves.

I guess I’m easy to please. I’m really enjoying it so far. The first episode hooked me right back in, and I thought episode 2 was even better.

It's not that I'm not liking it and more that maybe my expectations were maybe too high.

I'm into it, but it's Covid times... my bar to get into anything is pretty low these days. I'm underwhelmed also, but what else have I got going on?

The writing was never realistic, even in its prime.
But it was certainly more polished and clever than this.
So far NB seems on par writing-wise with season 5/7. Not nearly as bad as 8. But I'm not getting season 1-4 vibes thus far. Which is odd because this is the original showrunner.
The positive is the cast is significantly better and likeable. Acting-wise, the effort is there. And that helps a lot.
Hope it gets a little more complex and goes out with a big bang. I'll definitely see it through.

I kinda feel like Jack Alcott is stealing the show a bit. I never thought I would find myself interested in a Harrison storyline, but here I am. He's the most interesting character right now, IMO.

I don't really mind that it feels like old Dexter. I like old Dexter for the most part and feel like they would have missed the ball if they tried to completely reinvent the wheel.

He's really good. Kind of the one character with a bit of awareness calling things out. Someone the audience can resonate with, while every other character is just playing their part in the old Dexter formula.

It isn't spectacular so far. Still watchable but some of the terrible acting makes it hard for me to feel completely into the show.
Harrison is definitely the best part thus far. I'm wondering if a future spinoff is likely - not saying it is a good idea but there might be some material there.

I liked episode 3. Big step up from the first two, IMO. Some plot progression finally.
Really enjoyed the interactions between Dex and Deb in that one.
And Harrison is ...intriguing to say the least.

Latest episode was great. I love watching Dexter get back into forensics/detective mode.

The acting is really bad.

This season is looking to be much better than the later seasons of the original run.

Disagree. I'm just not seeing this bad acting you're talking about. The acting has been fine IMO. The kid who plays Harrison has been especially good, and Michael C. Hall picked up right where he left off. You've also got a veteran character actor like Clancy Brown, who couldn't give a bad performance if he tried.

Really? Acting has been pretty bad since season 1. Surprised you think other wise. Debra was probably worst actor I have watched in Tv show history.
This season isn't as bad but definitely not great. I would say below average acting.

Is Harrison going to become Dexter’s protege?
