I remember some people around here going bonkers for Murray back when the Pens had to choose between him and Fleury. So glad we stayed far away from him. Always looked like he was playing over his head and getting a lot of luck.

I was going to say that. A lot of General Managers were asking for him back in the day, thinking he was the next young emerging goaltender. The Pens opted to go with him.

Wouldn't surprise me if Tre was kicking tires as well.

He didn’t win two cups with luck. He was a really good, young goalie and played great. His injuries have really taken a toll on his mobility.

Hasn't Murray suffered some concussions?

He was an awesome young goalie. Lit up the AHL and then took the NHL by storm. He wasn't just lucky lol

In the summer prior to him getting traded the Fan960 had their goalie guru on and he broke down Murray’s game. It’s structurally unsound. It’s a mechanical thing, he’s bad at tracking pucks and he’s horrible at moving post to post (he went on further than just this).

Could be injuries that hurt his ability to move/track pucks, and it could also just be a goalie that “lost it”, which is just part of the position.

It was a really good interview, and it was the same one where he said that Markstrom and Calgary would be a match made in heaven when you compare type of shots that Calgary surrenders and the type of saves Markstrom makes (he doesn’t let in Low danger shots…like ever).

.
Totally agree with this. Murray would often make a great save on what should have been a routine save because his position was way off. He was always having to dive across the crease. Often after making a second save, he would be way out of position, but fortunately, the Pens were pretty good at getting possession after that. He had a lot of energy and adrenaline, but it wasn't a sustainable style of play.

Most of his highlights are like "oh my god, I can't believe he made that save", when they should have been "oh my god, why did he have to make that save". He also loved to do the whole round-the-world wave with his glove after every glove save giving it extra flair.

I'd still like to see Monahan to NYR for Kravtsov. Rangers are having a decent season and it gives them flexibility with Strome being able to play C/RW. I still like the upside of Kravtsov and we are desperate on RW.

There's been discussion about buying out Monahan which I think would be better served trying to trade him retained. He's only on the books until end of next season anyways and if we can do some cap gymnastics we can resign Gaudreau.

Even Monahan retained for say 2 million, would be better than buying him out because we get an asset in Kravtsov. This clears space for us and still have 3.6 million until TDL.

Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Mangiapane - Backlund - Kravtsov
Coleman - Dube - Pitlick
Lucic - Richardson - Lewis
Ruzicka

I like Monahan as a center insurance policy. If Lindholm or Backlund goes down. I still think he rebounds more this season.

Why?

People interviewed for management positions are usually asked how they would handle the situation they are inheriting, vision, near and longer term actions. Only one candidate is selected

I am not sure what is funny about an interview with an internal candidate and decision not to proceed. It’s pretty common

This is why I think some people underrate Markstrom. He tracks very well, and he is in position before a normally dangerous shot becomes dangerous. That combined with his size is formidable.
