Yes 30 million dollars a year. Wander will now be the starting pitcher as well. All other salaries will be traded.

After Steve Chohen's Metsy as it Getsy rant on twitter the other day they have come out and signed 3 fairly notable players in Canha, Escobar, and Marte. Looks like he's putting his money where his mouth is and throwing around some dollars this offseason. Sounds like they're going to chase after some pitching now. Syndergaard has left for the Angels and Stroman was doing his best Stroman impression on social media saying he likely wont be back. So I wouldn't be surprised if they're big players for Ray. Which kind of sucks as a Jays fan.

TSN doesn't have the above up yet, but Canha is one of the most underrated players in the league. Marte makes pitchers think when he's on base, and I was secretly hoping the Jays may be able to get him for a cheaper price. At least he's in the NL.

God the Mets are such a joke. lol

Like a $230 million luxury tax payroll and they will be lucky to even make the playoffs next season. Look at their rotation for crying out loud. How do you have a payroll that high and have such a ####ty rotation. Hopefully they don't poach any of the good starters the Jays are trying for.

Four years for Marte, after a career year at 33 is a typical Mets thing to do.

Byron Buxton and the Minnesota Twins are in agreement on a long-term, nine-figure contract extension. Yikes; guy can't stay healthy; but is a really good player when he does.

A long term gamble. Such a terrible move when he just can’t stay healthy. Then they’ll ultimately be tied to his contract. Very odd decision.

Corey Seager to the Rangers for 10 years 325 million

Wow. These dollar amounts are staggering. The Rangers have now solidified up the middle to the tune of 60 million per. Bananas.

Utterly insane, borderline idiotic money being spent everywhere, and somehow the Yankees not involved in any of them. The Old Man rolling in his grave right now.

Very curious what Correas number will be, he’s better than Seager.

As Canada's only Rangers fan I was privy to an invite only live stream of Rangers GM Chris Young in action.

I was able to record some of the action, shhhh don't tell anyone:

NSFW!

I don't get it. I really don't get it.

The Rangers won 60 games last season.

What's the plan there? Do they really think Semien and Seager are going to vault that team into 90+ wins? Do Semien and Seager think that too, or do they just not give a #### about winning and it's all about money for them and that's it?

Honest questions.

I mean I guess the off season isn't over yet, but as of right now they are probably trotting John Gray out as their opening day starter, and their outfield right now is Garcia, Calhoun and Billy Mckinney lol

I think it'll be a 10 year $355M deal. I can't see a deal generally going much more than that coming off covid uncertainty and the potential labour stoppage. I think it's to the Yanks and it happens tomorrow.

Prior to the signings the Texas Rangers had 4 players under salary for a combined 13 million

https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/texas-rangers/payroll/

In fact, their retained salary on Odor was much then their committed 2022 payroll.

They effectively did what the Jays did 4 years ago - Clear out all salary, trade what you can for prospects and reset.

If you assume they can have a salary in the 150 million range they can still sign another 60 million worth of players. If Seager, Gray and Siemen are worth 12-14 WAR, they really need to pick up another 15 wins throughout the rest of the roster and other signings to be a 90 win team.

Plus they dont have to win next year but start building like the Jays did

Apparently Jon Daniels said they're adding $100 million in payroll, and they're like $23 short on that.

I expect another pitcher to be added. Maybe 2.

Next year went from "Do I bother chipping in on MLB.tv?" to "This got interesting" over the span of a weekend!

Yeah the Rangers playing the long game with those contracts. But that's a huge gamble. If they're going to be serious about contending when some of their prospects mature then that's 3-4 years down the road. Then you're asking for a 35 year old Semien to still be a cornerstone.

Semien was an absolute stud last year but he was also a dead pull hitter which is easier to pitch around when you don't have the protection around him like he did with the Jays. I can easily see a regression in his numbers which could be scary.

It's probably more about putting butts in the seats with that brand new stadium. You know, the one to replace the already new stadium they had. Just the most on brand Texas thing. Spending money for the sake of spending money.
