I finally watched Venom: Let There Be Carnage last night.
It was...3.6 Roentgen. Not great, not terrible.
It was fun, didnt take itself all that seriously, somewhat to its detriment.
The thing is...Venom isnt Spider-Man. He's not this happy-go-lucky slapstick character with witty quips and comical 'odd couple' repartee all the time.
He is supposed to be a dark character fueled by anger and resentment not striving for love and acceptance. He is the Anti-Hero. He does good things but he does them violently according to his own ethos.
They've really lightened his character up a lot and I think that takes away a lot of the gravity from the character.
It was very CGI heavy, but at least the CGI was good and everyone knew that going in.
It'll be interesting to see where it goes from here, hopefully they get the character back to his roots instead of the fluffy, happy Disney version.

They really should have re-cast Topher Grace to bring the true rage Venom needs. Surely, the last decade, of having not so much work, has only added fuel to his burning inferno.
I started watching Arcane (LoL) on Netflix and it’s pretty entertaining. I have no clue about the game but the show is fun to watch so far after 4 episodes. I can’t watch Marvel anymore, and I’m a long time fan of the comics. All the movies and shows have lost their lustre for me and it’s turned into a never ending continuation where they can just soak us for all it’s worth.
I hate to say it but I just have no interest in super hero type movies - something I never thought I’d say.
Topher Grace can come back in Venom 5: into the Venomverse.
What Marvel should do is in the upcoming Spiderman, have Topher Venom show up, say a cheesy villian 1 liner, and then have Tom Hardy Venom bite his head off in an epic cameo.

What a mixed bag. Either really good or really bad with little or no inbetween.

Unless it's an animated kids movie, original idea does not usually constitute "big." People get hyped for stuff they know. There's probably an original idea that going to do really well, like the original John Wick, but nobody is going to be hyped for it a year out.
I think Avatar is the only movie in the top 50 gross that was an original idea. ET and Avatar when you adjust the top 10 for inflation.
Armaggedon was the last non-animated top box office movie of the year that was an original idea... 24 years ago.
