That being said...those buckets are there for the flares that the idiots throw.
Speaking of idiots throwing flares, I know the keeper was pissed, who wouldnt be when someone tosses a flare at you?
But there is a big, big difference between throwing a flare onto an open pitch in the general direction of a guy and tossing a lit flare into a enclosed crowd.
That....was stupid.

My fave city outside Calgary! Also, I've always thought MLS would do awesome there. Plus, expansion news in general is always a really fun development.
The original and maybe the one only true worldwide/known to the general public as far as an ambassador of the game... most certainly in North America.
RIP
Edit, though he played in WC before, 1970 in Mexico was the height of his dominance.
The thing is, for me its not even mostly about what Pele did as a player, I was far too young for that.
Dont get me wrong, he is, in my opinion, the unequaled Greatest of All Time.
But after that, what he did for soccer in North America, how he acted as an Ambassador for the game, he was just so, so much more than just the greatest player.
And thats not even getting into Social Justice work and growing the game and making it something North Americans cared about.
People talk about big name players coming to North America/MLS to grow the game? Yeah, guess who opened that door?
He was everything.
He was a player, a warrior and a pioneer and he was always, always kind and appreciative.
What an Icon.

Apparently around €200 million a year, which includes some non-football stuff. Imagine earning more in a year than all but a very select few footballers will earn in their entire career.

I thought that was spread over the life of the contract? Like 5 years or something?
Even that would still be an insane amount of money, but its per year? Yeah...that seems like an adequate price for someone's soul.

Quote:
According to reports, Ronaldo will receive $75 million per year through 2025 as part of the deal. Sources did not dispute that figure to ESPN.
So here they say $75M/year over 3 years. $225M total.
Still though....
Also, thats just the contracted amount of his playing salary. We all know that in that part of the world the 'reported' amount and the 'actual' amount are quite often nowhere near each other.
Then theres going to be image rights, ambassadorial duties...yeah, Ronaldo's gonna be doing alright.

I honestly would have thought the chance to score a few more CL goals would have been more important then making more money when he is already super rich. But maybe that is because that kind of money seems imaginary to a peasant like myself.

I wonder if Messi winning the World Cup changed things for him…at that point Messi locked up the GOAT debate vs Ronaldo.

Yeah Mr "Here We Go!" says it's close to €200 million a year, all in, so basically half a billion Euros for 2.5 years. We know the Saudis are cool lighting money on fire, but even for them this is extreme.
