Peters always talked about it and I thought those teams always started on time.
I’m mainly thinking of the first 10 minutes.

But how many games have we seen the Flames dominate (fast start) but not score and then give up a two on one or breakaway that ends up in the net. I do not consider that a slow start.

Tonight was a slow start - no effort, no execution.

It wasn’t a bad thing to start him with Lewis who has all that experience and is a real pro. Backlund is best got get offensive results for a newbie though.

Even without Toews, my guys seem to be doing okay on draws...

How many times have we seen the Flames dominate on the first 10 this year? Rarely. I guess you think taking long non dangerous shots on goal to pump SOG trumps actually scoring goals. The Flames always play much better in the 2nd and 3rd than the 1st this year. It is a constant Topix by the Calgary media and the team .

Third period and OT are the worst for the Flames which shouldn't be surprising with the blown loads

51 goals for/49 against in the first period
53/36 in period two which is very surprising

41/51 in period three
3/6 OT

So they actually have better second periods just going by goals. That might be playing into the bad first period for Dissentower. Yikes on closing down the games though

C'mon Sutter, why break up Mangiapane - Backlund- Coleman. Just toss Pelletier on Huberdeau's line and call it a day lol

It isn’t. They’ve commented on poor second periods last month,

Go ahead and find me the clips about poor starts.
