He agreed to be a part of 2 more years of this??

Was this contract signed under duress? At gunpoint perhaps?

The Canucks organization is just weird to me. I mean, I guess we know they aren't rebuilding.

To me, they would have had a great opportunity to bring in big assets of the backs of Kuzmenko, Horvat, Schenn this season - then take this summer off (no free agent signings), trade off Boeser and then Myers next season and they'd then been in a pretty good spot (...other than that OEL contract).

The more they maintain, the less things makes sense. They've got a problem brewing with Pettersson by the sounds of things...and if he goes? Enjoy your JT Miller, Quinn Hughes, and OEL core.

I guess he wants to end his season in April every year.

and of course the "he can finally afford to buy that 600sqft 1 bedroom condo!"

What’s the point? He’s a good player and this is a decent deal. But why would you not trade him for some decent assets? Missed opportunity by a rudderless franchise. He’s good, he’s fun to watch, but this is a ‘no-man’s land’ kind of deal. It’s a waste of two years of his career, and is an asset wasted for a badly needed rebuild.

Maybe they are trying to keep Petterson happy since they will be negotiating with him next season for an extension. Seems like good value and easily moveable if he continues to score at his current clip.

2 years? Odd for a team not going to compete anytime soon

Having that extra 2 years at a reasonable number for a guy who is currently top 50 in points and top 30 in goals is frankly just more reason to trade him. That has some serious value.

tbf Rutherford seems like an even bigger idiot than Benning

an already extended Kuzmenko has better value though

I think if they get a couple good D prospects for Horvat and can dump Boeser and Myers they will be in pretty good shape. Still have good talent up front, D is a mess, fix that and they could be a 7/8 next year

Not really relevant if they don't trade him though

This

It's a fair deal, hes a very good player, but we had a real opportunity to turn what was essentially found money into a very good return, especially considering his salary was basically league minimum this year so he would have been of interest to almost everyone

Only way this can somewhat make sense is boeser and/or garland are moved this deadline preferably, or at the draft

Myers will likely be moved post july 1 as well, he will only have 1m in actual salary left on his deal next year
