Will Flames make the playoffs?
So far the season has been very up and down (like a toilet seat) and as a fan it's been a rollercoaster ever since the Oilers series.
The wildcard race is tight and the team is not performing with a consistent rate (this road trip sums it all). If they would play to their full abilities, then no doubt they would be in, possibly in a Division spot. This team has enought talent to be a threat, but for some reason (chemistry, coaching, ??) they are not doing it consistently enough.
It seems that Oilers are starting to heat up a little and since Kane is making his return, I don't see them missing playoffs and Colorado is for sure in. Vegas and LA are going to slide, but I don't know if they're gonna fall that much in the standings.
So, my bet is they are going to finish 9th, just barely.
1 SEA, 2 EDM, 3 LAK, 1 WC COL, 2 WC VGK. What are your predictions?
If you feel the need to just bash the team and not address this specific topic, please do it in the "Vent your frustration here" post.

They are going to make the playoffs and be more successful than last year's team when they get there.

The flames are not making it into the third round IMO. I got them making the playoffs and out in the first round.

I think they make the playoffs with the way they are currently playing but they are getting bounced first round unless they get Huberdeau clicking with someone and fix their powerplay

Will be interesting how Edmonton gets Kane back in the line-up. They don't have the cap room.
I think the Flames make it, and frankly I think they are capable of beating any team in the west, though I think the Oilers will continue to be a bad matchup if that happens. And the Avs scare me. But amongst Dallas, Vegas, Seattle, LA I think they are all beatable.
Doesn't mean they will beat them. But I just don't see a team in the West that they shouldn't have a chance against.
Again, would prefer to avoid the Oilers. Let someone else get rid of those losers.

oh god then we will have to hear about that lost point against the Hawks and Blues until the end of time.
Literally 15 years from now, people will still be talking about it on this site.

scrape in by 1-4 points
despite how they've gelled (not well), there's still too many good pieces for them to be 9th or 10th in this underwhelming conference
a lot of cap was dropped on some big name pieces. in spite of themselves/their incomsistency, those guys should have enough to will them over the playoff line
it's unfortunate though that 4 or 5 guys are swinging below what they are capable of
.915 goaltending or 100 point huberdeau alone and this team is comfortably in and vying for home ice as we speak
I think they put up a good fight in the 1st round too, as none of top teams scare me
Jets are not high octane and we more or less have the Stars' number
Vegas also doesn't scare me as much as 3-4 years ago

Taking a while to get to 5000

Seattle is likely to falter a bit, Stone has his annual back injury in Vegas and they seem to be coming back down to Earth. Oilers will find a way into the mix. I think the Flames make it. Hopefully not a wildcard unless they play the Jets. No thanks to a Dallas 1st round again

Funny thing about them is that they are kind of built to lose overpaid depth. It's not like they play some of those guys more than 5-7 minutes anyway.

Since December 3rd the Flames have more points then all those teams. Now they aren't consistent enough to make the playoffs?

I've been debating this with my brother and we are both convinced the Flames will miss the playoffs. The only thing for me is, is that I think it's okay given the upheaval of the off-season and expecting things to click out of the gate.
The league is so tight one mediocre season from any of your top players can sink you. I also can't compare this roster to last year's either. It's not a fair comparison. That core had been together for 4 + seasons.
I'm okay if they miss this year, not because of Bedard or any such thing, just accepting of the fact that this is year one for this group.

The Flames are a funny animal.
They're getting better, but as a foundation (floor) not the ceiling.
So more B game level poor efforts which is good (non existent C game or D game lately), but they're not expanding the A level range.
To me that says playoff team that doesn't go anywhere.
All this changes though if Huberdeau gets back to a 1.1 or so points per game player and not on 2nd assists.

I voted yes, but I'd like to see a poll: "Will the Flames have success in the playoffs"
