Once Neal got signed I assume the weird fetish some have with Stone would be over seeing the team has nowhere near the cap space to fit him or extend him. He's a good player and all but there is this thing called a salary cap that the team has to abide by and the Flames are not in a position to trade more 1st round picks or top prospects for a guy a year away from cashing in big.

Yeap. Don't trade for Mark Stone now.
Wait and see what happens. If he goes UFA the Flames would be able to re-evaluate at that time, and if they do decide they want to take a run at him they would likely have the inside track.
I like our team now. If we get a break out season from any of our young guys this team should make the playoffs easily, and have just as good of a chance as anyone to make some noise once they get there. If we get a break out from more than one of our young guys this team is bordering on elite IMO. No sense dealing futures for a piece we could very well land for free in a years time.

He'd have to be pretty delusional to not be. 41 and approaching his second season out of the league? Yeah, hang em up.

I'm talking about realistically...he hasn't played an NHL game in over a year and he is 41 years old

Yeah, that's basically the central driver for the original statement I think.

If Iggy wants to play, he can't be picky on the teams that are willing to sign him.
If he's holding out for a cup contender to sign him - I doubt he has very many waiting at his door.

I'd like to see the Flames sign Iginla - for a day, so the inevitable can be properly done.

Lol, that too. All it would take is some thread name trickery and back up servers on the ready.

How about this: the Flames lock up a playoff spot in March and sign Iginla to a 1-game contract to play the final regular season home game, and his final NHL game.

Not allowed under current CBA. Players have to be signed before the trade deadline to be eligible to play in the current season.

I'm not sure that is correct... you can sign after the trade deadline and play some games but you are not eligible for postseason play. A couple teams do it every year.

This is right.
I've always said that I will retire when my phone stops ringing.
Iginla's phone has stopped ringing.

Can we get back on track please. I would still like to see a deal around Brodie+ to toronto for Nylander. With valimaki and Kylington in the wings.

The + would probably have to be substantial.
I think dealing brodie is a good call though. I think Rasmus would do just as well with gio. Or hamonic. It will be interesting to see what happens with kulak- I've never really bought into him and he seems likely to be replaced by valimaki
