Flames will move AHL affiliate to Glens Falls. Presser Friday 7:30 AM MT
http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=718079
Quote:
“Glens Falls has had a terrific history with the American Hockey League and will be an ideal location and environment for the development of our prospects,” said Flames General Manager Brad Treliving. “When we announced on April 15th our discontinuation of operations in the City of Abbotsford, we had a few options available to us and there was much speculation about Glens Falls. There has been a high level of interest demonstrated to ensure the AHL remains in that market. We look forward to finalizing details and beginning this new partnership.”
Glens Falls, N.Y., has been home to American Hockey League action for 25 seasons. The Detroit Red Wings AHL development program captured four Calder Cup titles between 1979 and 1999 under the banner of the Adirondack Red Wings. The Philadelphia Flyers (Adirondack Phantoms) called Glens Falls home since 2009 and left at the conclusion of the 2013-14 season.
A press conference and more formal announcement will be conducted in Glens Falls mid next week. No further details will be provided until that time. More information on the scheduling of this press conference will be provided in the ensuing days.
|
per the Mayor of Glens Falls, the agreement is for 3 years with an option for 2 more years.

Adirondack Flames?
Adirondack Heat?

Im betting on the Heat staying as the nickname.

Adirondack Flames.
Use the retro colours and the Atlanta Flames burning 'A'.
Perfect.

I see in the other thread that the Heat is a baseball teams name in the city...so looking good for a Flames name or something original.
Could be Adirondack Mountains as its right in the Catskills.
Adirondack Hudson's...for the river
the Adirondack Teddy Roosevelt's...he was sworn in at the region
Adirondach Placid's...after Lake Placid
Adirondack Vacations...its a popular area for those.
or...the Adirondack Painted Pony Rodeo's....nah thats to Canuck sounding for me.
"Painted Pony Rodeo in Lake Luzerne – five miles west of Lake George – is the oldest weekly rodeo in the United States."

Now that they've got the farm team out of rival territory, I hope they go back to being the Flames.
Like other's have stipulated, Adirondack Flames with the old Flaming 'A' as the logo and Flames silks. That would be my preference.

I'll be very surprised if it's not the Flames with the old Atlanta logo.

Judging by how quickly the fans accepted the team before they were even officially announced and how excited they are, I'm sure we will have a few new people signing up soon.
I think we will be well taken care of as will the boys.

Especially with some of the guys recently wearing the Flaming A on T-Shirts in interviews towards the end of this year, seems like foreshadowing to me

Listening to Treliving on the fan, I'm excited about this move. He said that the Yotes farm team located in Portland (Maine) had something like 11 nights on the road last season, where as the Heat had something like 83 nights on the road.
That's going to be a ton more practice and development time, and a lot less wear and tear for our prospect group.

Welcome Heat/Flames to Glens Falls. We are excited to have you guys here. We are a loyal fan base here and supported a garbage product for 5 long years. We are so happy to have a team that could challenge for a Calder Cup as soon as this year. I wore an Atlanta Flames burning "A" shirt to the last 3 home games. There were a few Calgary jerseys starting to pop up too, as well as "We want the Heat!!" chants Can't wait to buy my new Heat/Flames gear and renew my Tix.
I'll post some game reports to give you guys a feel for what is going on here during the season.

Great to hear that there are lots of passionate fans.
You guys are inheriting a really solid young team.
Gaudreau, Baertschi, Granlund, Reinhart, Knight, Arnold, Agostino, Hanowski, Van Brabant, Wotherspoon and Ortio are all solid prospects who have already had a taste of the NHL.
Then there is Poirier as well. And a decent chance that we sign Hayes this summer.
Sure, one or two of them will likely make the Flames, and several could be in Calgary during injury situations, but there will still be plenty of good prospects to keep it interesting for you guys.
I can't wait to see this team in the fall
