Given the window this team is in, and the cap space utilized for attacking that window, using a carousel of average 3rd liners and hoping they catch fire for a handful of games for our woefully inept second scoring line, is a terrible long term plan...especially as the GM tried at least twice to make significant moves in the past 7 months to address that lack of a credible and dangerous 2nd line.

When healthy I'd like to see:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm
Tkachuk-Backlund-Czarnik
Bennett-Ryan-Mangiapane
Lucic-Jankowski-Frolik

I still want to see Lindholm centre the second line, have Backlund as an elite 3rd line centre. Keep Tkachuk on the second. It means bumping someone who doesn’t quite belong as those 2 RW spots. Bennett, Mangiapane, hell even Lucic. I just think it’s a problem having 4 dynamic forwards and playing 3 together.

Honestly if you have 2 stars on each line they can play with anyone. If it means spreading the scoring across all lines could we live with a 1RW of Czarnik or Rieder?

I think its worth a try if it means Lindholm as 2C for a game or an extended look. It might be exactly what this team needs

Gaudreau - Lindholm - RW
Tkachuk - Monahan - RW
LW - Backlund - Frolik
Lucic - Ryan - RW

^ Exactly. Using the players currently on our roster:

Tkachuk-Monahan-Czarnik (Playmakers, speed, net front/grit)
Gaudreau-Lindholm-Rieder (Playmakers, speed, defense)
Bennett-Backlund-Frolik (proven trio)
Lucic-Ryan-Mangiapane (Bread & Ryan work well together, have worked well with Lucic)

Just an idea but that spreads things out a bit more does it not?

Don't think I'm crazy about Tkachuk and Monahan on the same line. Not enough speed there. I'd swap Monahan with Lindholm.
