Bennett has drawn (yes drawn, not taken) a penalty tonight and just scored a goal. He's looked pretty strong tonight, better than the other night in terms of following the play.

2-0 Panthers over Columbus.

Edit: Bennett almost scored again coming right down the middle of the ice.

I'm a little sad to see that Bennett had this in him but couldn't do it in Calgary, but the Panthers fan in me is more than happy to take him off the Flames' hands.

The Panthers look gooooooood.

I would assume Bennett has a strong finish to the season with the Cats. However if he gets a fat contract going forward that's got to be concerning

Define "fat".

He's still an RFA and does not have a long history of being a major point producer, so unless he goes insane and drives the team to a Stanley Cup, I don't see him getting a huge raise. He would top out at $4 million no matter how good he does over the next little while. He simply doesn't have the track record or stats to ask for more.

QUICK! Somebody try to prove that Bennett's goal was just a result of pure luck

Is that 9 points in the last 8 games (and 8 in his last 6) for Bennett?

Hmm...

Good for him

Arb rights, so you’d have to look at production comparables and that wouldn’t work out that well for him IMO. Arbitrators are not likely to take deployment complaints very seriously.

Exactly, that's kind of what I was driving at.

2 games into his tenure with his new team; good for him but it's still early. I was afraid he would become a major point producer on another team and it appears to have begun happening... again, it's early, but let's see how he finishes off the season and playoffs.

Pfft...Neal was scoring 3-4 a game when he first went to the Oilers big deal

Even Joe Colborne started with a hatty. Some people worry too much.

Flames finally get a real coach, and Bennett seems to be settling in. 6 points in 6 games. I’ve seen all I need to see. Trade him!

Markstrom is putting up numbers in the .800s. Rittich is expendable! Trade him!

Wizardry.

Holy crap, glad Tre didn’t trade anyone else!

Pretty dumb post considering Rittich is a UFA...there is no question about that trade it's a slam dunk win.

Is it just me or is looking only at Bennett’s most recent numbers but then looking at Markstrom’s whole season (over .900 BTW) a little inconsistent.

Since the TDL, Flames have won 2/3 and should won the other one. Not sure if the results are making the point you want.

Was sort of a nothing fight, but he jumped in quick either way. Nice hit at the beginning of the shift.

Just one assist away from the gordie Howe lol.

And Bennett is an RFA with arb rights that they have to qualify and then stood to lose in expansion.

It was pretty much kidding, man. You and the other guy need to relax

Although I could have put up a .950 in the last few games, the way the Flames have been playing D. They have given Markstrom very little in the way of challenges

Panthers fans must be loving him so far. I have no idea if he can keep it up but I'm pulling for him.

One can also say Bennett's recent play is the only reason they got a 2nd and a prospect. They sold high compared to a month ago. It's obvious that he wasn't a hot commodity around the league. They would have taken 2 2nds long before if it was on the table.
