Haha awesome.
I heard that on the replay as awesome but wasn't sure if it was a player or fan. Makes you wonder if there was some Elliott hate in the flames room or if that's just some friendly rubbing.
I thought it was a fan...but I could see Versteeg be the type to say it. Philly reminds me of Winnipeg last year...better than their record but goal keeping holding them back.
That was a game that alternated between frustrating and entertaining. Kinda fun in its own way and happy that the Flames took advantage of the opportunities on the PP.
However - on the whole, they still look like Game 1 - disorganized, confused and often passing to......no-one or nowhere. And Johnny gets away with a lot of giveaways only because he is often fast enough to get back and break up the play. But he REALLY needs to be more careful sometimes.
Brodie needs a rest. Dunno what's wrong with him, but clearly his head is not in the game right now. Maybe he's just tired out - has a bit of a tough life, so a rest might not be a bad thing at all.

I actually agree with a lot of this and, while I dont want to pile on Gulutzan, some of these issues are his responsibilities.
Disorganized, confused, and passes going nowhere and to no one. Unprepared.
The issue with Brodie might well just be some time off. Be it in the press-box, or whatever, because he was abysmal today and quite frankly, I dont think that means that Brodie is garbage and has forgotten how to hockey, hes probably just got other things on his mind and to give him some time to sort those out would likely be beneficial to everyone.
Hes a good hockey player, hell, a great hockey player, but hes also human. We dont want to trade him, but we need him playing at a different level.
And it wasnt just today, today Hamilton was bad but that seems like more of a one-off, Brodie has been off all season so far.

No Jagr in that pic...did he just wear what he wore to junior high?
Versteeg, Smith, Brouwer with the best looks from what I see. Versteeg seems like this kinda guy who'd wear that out after the game too.

Good to stick with it and get a win, and nice to see them take full advantage of the PP!
However, like many have said, our D-core is struggling right now, especially Brodie. Those who say give him a rest of some sort are likely on to something. Seems like it’s more mental than physical right now.
Overall, the D is rarely physically engaged-something Loubo referenced on the radio broadcast-and otherwise are often scrambly in their positioning. On one play in the 3rd, for example, both Gio & Dougie tied up the same man in front, leaving Voracek wide open to the side of the next for several seconds. If Smith doesn’t find the loose puck and pounce, that’s the GWG.
Having said this, when (not “if”) the D figures it out, this team is going to be scary. I know people are concerned that the top line is doing most of the scoring, but to me, this is mostly positive; imagine what it’d be like if they too were battling consistency right now...and Monny Johnahan are both on fire, with Ferland capably filling out the top line. They’re exciting to watch.
It’s frustrating sometimes right now, but Smith was brought it to buy us time, in some measure. We have a winning record in spite of the inconsistencies. All signs point to the team gelling, getting better positionally on D (which will improve the PK) and becoming a solid, well-rounded group. And when that happens, well, like Loubo also says: “Lookout”.
Not to be a downer but after watching some highlights Brodie had one of the worst games I've seen him play. I don't know if it was just bad ice but he couldn't handle the puck at all. So many mishandles led to instant pressure and it was fortunate it didn't end up in the net.
After Johnny got his breakaway goal, the Flyers got an immediate chance off the face off when Brodie fell down and a guy walked right in.
It's quite disconcerting.
I listened to the Flyers post game interviews and they thought they played a good game save for a stretch and penalties. It's hard to argue against that. There were so many chances against the Flames that were grade A - just lucky PHI didn't score.
CGY was opportunistic and that's good but there are way too many quality chances against. If not for Smith it could've been a blow out.
This team needs to play a whole lot better defensively.

Scoring chances were close...Smtih played well but certainly didn't steal it...in fact he allowed 2 suspect goals. Flames also had a couple cross bars.
