If you all you get is late first and have to take on Kerfoot's contract, you can probably get about the same as that return at the deadline next year unless I am really underselling Robertson.

Personally, I’m looking at the Flyers with either Frost or Koenekny as the primary pieces coming back. Given recent public comments by Sutter I would think they would favour TK as he is closer to his prime years. The Flames will want to remain competitive now.

Yup, I think they go re-tool if they can find the right person. Konecny is my ideal target at this point. Can't see any true rebuild trades until Sutter is gone.

For Johnny at half salary, I would want Robertson (early first), Amirov (mid first) and 2021 1st (late first) and take on Kerfoot. Toronto overrates everything they are attached to.

If you trade him at this deadline I guess you get 2 playoff runs with him potentially. Seems more likely he is traded in the off season though which gives you one playoff run so basically a rental. I don't see the package changing much because you get him for one regular season.

Exactly what Hackey said in above post.
Have to hope someone is full in and will overpay. The other school of thought is wait until off season when there are more suitors but he’s a one and done which probably affects value.
I’m also in the camp that Philly won’t trade for him and wait until he’s ufa. Aren’t a championship team this year so no pressing need to make a deal now.

I think Robertson will be a player. He had a strong junior career, good WJC and he has 9 points in 10 AHL games with the Marlies this season. The Leafs just added the 19 year old to the taxi squad yesterday. I like his game. His 21 year old brother is killing it in Dallas this season, not that that means anything.

- Panarin (2 yrs) for Saad (4)
'18-'19:
Hoffman (2) for Boedker
Skinner, Pacioretty, and Karlsson trades happened in Aug and Sep
'19-20
Barrie/Brodie only had 1 year terms for Kadri...(actual trade happened July 1)
The next best I could find was 2015 where 1 year of Lucic (15 team trade list; 46% retained) returned: pick #13OA in 2015
23 yo Colin Miller (5th rd pick who had yet to play an NHL game, though he lit up the AHL the previous season and played 42 games for BOS the next year)
Martin Jones (RFA rights - BOS flipped him a few days later for a 2016 1st (#29 - Trent Frederic) and Sean Kuraly (full time player for 4 years now)
Be careful what we wish for in Lombardi? Lucic actually potted 23G and 50P, but the Kings were out in 5 and haven't won a playoff game since.
34 yo Bieksa also waived his NTC to go for a 2016 2nd to ANA that year (that 2nd ended up being future HOFer Filip Gustavsson)
|
Quoting self for posterity. Dug back one year further for another few examples:
2014:
37 yo Briere 1x4M traded June 30 from MTL to COL for Parenteau (2x4M) +5th. Retired after season.
35 yo Stuart 1x3.6M traded July 1 from SJ to COL for 2nd+6th. COL extended him in Sep 2014.
31 yo Spezza 1x7M (10 team NTC) traded on July 1, 2014 for:
2015 2nd (ended up 42OA)
Alex Chiasson (2009 2nd rd pick, coming off first full NHL season at age 23: 13g, 35p)
Alex Guptil (2010 3rd rd pick, never played in NHL before/after)
Nicholas Paul (2014 4th rd pick w/ 0 gp; has been a fringe player for OTT)
DAL extended Spezza in November.
Lucic got a haul, but otherwise draft-UFA day hasn't been a great time to trade 1 yr to UFA players.

We are already a small team with Mang, Dube, Gaudreau, Ryan etc. Our best prospects are tiny too (Pelletier, Phillips, MEP). Some size would be nice.

If we're trading away Gaudreau, if Ryan is 34, why are we making long-term decisions based on the current composition of the team?
Again, just find the best players. Worry about sorting out the roster when it's time to compete. It's easier to trade a good small player than a broken refrigerator.

They also gave up Roslovic, who has 20 points in 28 games for the Jackets. Laine only has 14 in 25, and Dubois has 13 points in 20 games - who would have seen Roslovic producing the most out of the 3?
I think both sides did well - but Columbus has the slight edge so far.

Dubois has a meanness to his game and plays big.
Laine has to throw a full on tantrum to even remotely register anything resembling toughness.
He got his goals and now he will fade faster than Heater after 50 in '07.
