His career high is 30 points for crying out loud. How the hell did he parlay mediocrity like this into $42 million?

He's on the last year of his contract - doubt he'd be willing to have his contract terminated if he had years remaining. He's giving up a bit of cash to get to a new organization.

Might be one of the worst contracts in the league at the moment.

And I think he may have kicked Cali's dog at one point...

Bogosian will be placed on unconditional waivers today. If he clears, his contract will be terminated and he will be free to sign with another club. Buffalo tried hard to trade him and was willing to retain 50%

Could certainly see the Flames having interest

Can't, actually. NMC prohibits it.
Could've tried it with Neal however.

The 2008 draft was weird. To think it was a toss up between Doughty, Bogosian and Pietrangelo. I never understood the Bogosian appeal. Thought Pietrangelo was the best defenceman in the draft. I wanted the Flames to pick John Carlsson. Instead they went with Greg Nemisz...ugh.

Would not be a bad pickup on the cheap, without giving up any assets of our own.
Though I can see some other teams definitely being interested too.

You can never have too many awful defensemen.

He’s being let go by the freaking Sabres. I hope the Flames stay far away.

I would rather sign him for the remainder of the season than make a trade for a RHD. I don't think he's good but it's possible a fresh start may lead to a jump in his step and some inspired play in the short term.

Signing him to league minimum would be worthwhile, he is an upgrade on Stone and Davidson. He is essentially playing for chance to keep his career alive, he might come in motivated. If it doesn't work out, just move on.

He is a RHD who will be depth on our team. With Giordano and Hamonic still out, and us competing for a playoff spot, we need to add some depth.
We are currently down to playing the our 8th (Stone) 9th (Davidson) and 10th d-men (Yelesin) on our depth chart regularly (counting Valimaki as well). Adding depth is something Treliving is probably looking for. I’d rather get a free asset who can step in and be serviceable till we get healthy than someone who will have to trade assets for. Another injury and we need to call up someone like Valiev. Wouldn’t you rather have Bogosian than that?

Agreed. If the Flames are in the market for a dman (which they are) I'd rather sign Bogosian to a league min deal right now than give up even a single draft pick.
Flames need more draft picks, not less. But given the circumstances they wont be selling.

Actually, they could. It would just have to be a mutual decision (as the Bogosian case basically is) and there would be no waivers involved. Lucic, of course, has no reason to agree to that.
